3 beats/bar --> 4??

just wondering if it's possible to do that without manipulating the sample...or if there's other ways of manipulating the sample that i havent thought of.


basically i have a nice sample but in 3 beats per bar. the first part is an arpeggio of three notes (one per beat), so i chopped it up and added the second beat at the end

but there's more to the music and the next part has percussion in it, so when i use the same technique, it sounds wrong


so anyone know a way around this? thanks

Make your time signature 3/4, You'll be on some waltz shyt, but the sample will fit.

TimeStretch it. Or Pitch it down slower.

or chop it differently.

Or, using mono (as opposed to poly or note off), trigger the first bar to play twice so your 3 bar sample becomes a 4 bar sample. Or trigger the last note to play twice.

Really depends on the sample being used, but theres a number of ways to flip it.

Experiment.

Fantastic example....Very clever if u have a loop thats shorter than you need it to be

Another is Electric relaxation by tribe on midnight marauders from Mystic Brew by Ronnie Foster....its the reverse

Its 3 sets of 4 beat bars so the loop repeats every 3 bars.....

so for the sake of the Beat maths fitting...q tip made the drums a 1 bar loop & we ALL know that 1 goes into 3...3 times!!!!

i love both of those tracks...

My friend made a 3/4 beat on my 2kxl and challenged me to spit to it, I took his challenge and surprised everybody that heard it. My flow went along with the time signature he used and it came out pretty good. I'll prolly never do it again though, that was a bit of a stretch and I'm not a dedicated emcee so I don't wanna do that anymore..

"Whole world" is is 2/4, which works fine with 4/4.
I'm feeling these cats telling you to chop it up.
Just repeat a note or two that sounds good in the sequene
DJ Premier style, etc till you cover the remaining 1/4 note in
the desired 4/4 sequence.

I've a song i did in 98 (Wow...what a long time ago that was) where i broke it down & used 3/8 signatures before the verse would start. If u mess with the timing, it can sound VERY VERY good...takes some experimenting...but if u scared...just copy the sequence a few times...then trash a few of em trying!!!

If you use 3/4 you can still program your drums in 4/4.
Your sample (if 1 bar) will loop 4 times for every 3 times your (1bar) drums play.

This can sound dope and you can do some nice unexpected kik ins etc.
This actually works real well on arpeggiated notes. I sometimes purposely program my notes like this to drop the beats unexpectedly and drop the beats in 3/4 etc. you can do crazy sht.
Trust me, you do this properly and it'll sound dope, an MC won't have any trouble rhyming to it either.

Seems like he wanna take a 3/4 oriented sample, and make it fit into
a standard 4 bars so he can spit over it without being too
avantegarde.
