beat mapping help???????????????????????????

im starting to get more into what it truely mean to sample my boy can take and old jazz record with drums and all and turn it into a work of art i know how to sample and the kinda of stuff i should be looking for to sample but i cant figure out how to lace my drums over a mellody containing drums mine always seem to be off i have been told that if i beat map the sample then i can set the mpcs tempo so the snares will be on the 2 and 4 im tryin to read up on this but i cant find anything on it can you guys help please

gotta make the sample's tempo at the same value as your beat's

let's say you got an 82 BPM Jazz loop
and you got your MPC beat at 90 BPM

you gotta pitch (or timestretch or whateva...) the sample so that its BPM is the sama as the one on your MPc

so you pitch it up around +10% and voilà, here ya go with a 90BPM jazz loop

then you play your drums and all that jazz...

TO AVOID ALL OF THAT JUST CHOP YOUR SAMPLEZ,YOU"LL HAVE MORE CONTROL ON WHERE ITS GOING,YOU CAN GET YOUR DRUMZ SYNCED IN BETTER BY BREAKING DOWN THE SAMPLE INTO SMALLER SEGMENTS......

The 4k can slice/chop the samples into zones and can also create a midi file or "beat map" that will play the loop back in a sequence. Now you you have chunks of the loop mapped to the pads that you can trigger in any order (or tempo) that you like.

Or you can use software like recycle or phatmatik.

Are you layering your drums over the sample with the timing correct still on?
If you are, the mpc will try to correct your hits if you aren't using the same swing as the sample. Turn the tc off and try and you should be able to match it by ear.

If you have been turning the time correct off sorry for wasting your time.

i'm still tryin to figure this out. i got my manual chop technique down since the 1K lacks this feature. but when you say "just chop your samplez", into what size fragments? do you take 4-beat segments, 8-beats, single shots? and wouldn't the chopped segments still have to be adjusted to the same bpm in order to fit? i appreciate any input.

When i chop i usually go for each individual note. Then you can replay it however you want, and in turn you are less likely to be as handcuffed by the original sample. Sometimes i'll chop all single notes except maybe one phrase if its dope in which case you would want to get the sample as close to the speed of your beat as you can, then timestretch to get it on the money.
