the reason i do the drums first is becuz i need an outline of the flow of the beat for that sample.
after i nail the sample with a drum pattern i go back and find the right drum sounds for the beat. if neccessary.
i establish a pattern for the drums in my head when i listen to a record that contains the sample. once i figure out a pattern i lay the drums down. then move to recording the sample, chopping it up, fine tunin the sample and laying them down.
i ran into this problem that Science has not to long ago. and the one thing i learned that helped me was to chop. and i found that "tune" which is found under parameters of the 2k classic helps me match my samples. it allows me to speed up and slow down the tempo of the sample WITHOUT adjusting the actual tempo of the beat.
i found when i tried to align a sample with the rest of the beat within a sequence with an already set tempo, it was almost impossible to match the sample.
the reason i do it this way is because like my beats between 160-178 bpm. with or without samples.
i cant spit to nothing slower or faster. i wouldnt sound right. its no secret that im not a producer but an emcee. so i make beats to fit my own style.
i know i make shht sound much harder then it actually is but thats just how i getz down.
