scsi problem

scsi problem

I bought an external zip drive on ebay.
I know the number valiues correspond with the mpc somehow but dont know how they should be set.
Can anyone help? Also i think the zip drive might not be working full stop..it sounds dodgy when you start it up

On my iomega zip100 I set the ''terminate'' button to on and ''id'' to 5 (6 is what the mpc uses). Then select scsi 5 on the load screen on ya mpc. And zip drives are a little noisy when they load so should be ok.

If the mpc uses 6 why set it to five? what is the terminate button

Well thats what it says in the manual pg.163.

''Make sure the SCSI ID of a SCSI device connected to a SCSI bus is
unique. For example, the ID of the MPC2000 is 6 and the ID of the
other devices connected should not be set to 6.''

On the back of my iomega there are 2 switches. One is ''terminate'' set to on the other switch ''id'' is set to 5. Does your zipdrive have them on the back?

You have to set it to 5 because each SCSI device has to have its own unique number. Because the MPC is automatically set to six, that only leaves number 5 to be used on the zip.

When using SCSI devices the last device in the chain has to be terminated. So if you are using an Iomega zip drive with no other SCSI devices you must slide the terminator switch to the on position.

what if my zip does not have a terminate button???

If your Zip doesnt have a terminate button its either not SCSI, or its an internal SCSI and you have to install it into a case and set the jumpers or use and external terminator.

A Zip 100 PLUS! Thats a whole different kettle of fish. They have automatic termination!

does that mean that i cant have any more sh*t chained up??? or as long as i keep the zip last in chain im good???

I don't own one so I don't know from 1st hand experience. I have read that it does have to be the ONLY device on the chain. Maybe someone in here has tried it.
