how do i use the filtering on the sp1200 via the outputs?

i heard that you can get some filtering by inserting your plugs half way in the back of the sp1200. can someone be kind enough to explain to me how to do this? and where does the other end of the plug connect to? all i got at home is the sp1200, turntable, and a dj mixer. i need some advice folks.
