gettin 12 bit.....

Heres the deal;
I want to get somethin to give my drums and whatnot that 12 bit sound; however I aint got the budget for a sp1200 or mpc60.
I have been lookin around and have seen there are a couple of rack samplers such as the akai s700 and the roland s330 that are twelve bit, and can be picked up pretty cheaply (under £100), but was wondering if any one knew of a VST or cheap equipment (under £50) that would give me a feel for workin in 12 bit before i shell out for an oldschool sampler.

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, or things i should look out for....

b.t.w: im currently working with the 1K and some crappy version of Reason, getting most of my drums off vinyl....

hate to burst your bubble but in order to get that 12 bit grung ol skool thumpin drums. you are gonna need those machines.....see its all about the parts they used in em. like the mpc 60 it used an analog filter module piece of hardware that the sound goes through and it comes out with that raw sound....the only way to save money is to really just buy that moduale and just hook up some input, outputs to it...ohh shit that just gave me an idea...........piece

If you want the SP-1200 sound...but an SP-1200. If you want 12 bit sound...buy a Frostwave Sonic Alienator or go download the Soundhack Decimator for free.

I read that one of the things that makes the classic 12 bit machines sound so good is that the bits are non linear, so it follows the logorhythmic curve that our ear does in perceiving level. I think all 16 bit samplers are linear, and linear 12 bit samplers are generally not talked about as much as the non linear ones.

with a little bit luck you can get a akai s900 for 50 pounds?
