Ive realized that a book aint gonna cut it. It will help, but even if you obsorb everything in the book you still need to get dirty.
Id recomend trying to network with people who have been through the ropes. Also try to talk to a lawyer.......only thing is they are expenisve$$$$. Becarefull on who you trust, cause you might have a friend whos been through the ropes or who has been taken, and they might not have learned from thier mistakes....ya know!
any way around it, the best thing to realize that you have to be willing to learn. And try to take something from every situation. A book will help you as far as copyrights and contracts, but you have to learn how business work, and know when to delegate duties to other poeple..........like highering a lawyer to write contracts up for you. Certain things you cant learn except from experience or someone who has experience. People go to college for business, they go get there masters, PHD, and they still dont know shit! Even a lawyer who can write a contract still dont know shit!
Id also check out some books on basic business things. The record industry is a business. Record companies are corporations and their number one goal is the bottom line.........making money. The sooner you realize that, the sooner you will realize how things work. Learn as much about business. Get a few marketing books. Get some basic business type books............some info you might never need to know, but the more you obsorb the better off youll be....basically just dont stick to "music books"

All im tryin to say is broaden your horizons by giving up your egos. Try to learn as much as possible. Learn from your mistakes. Question things you are unsure about. Realize what business is about. Dont think all your answers come from one person or book. Even the stupidest people can teach you something. Educate yourself as much as possible, even if that means going to college. Try to get experience, and network as much as possible;like working for a studio. Learn from every situation. Even if you work at mcdonalds you can learn how a business works........its up to you to take that extra step to educate yourself and learn from the situation.
If you are educated its harder for people to take advantage of you, but dont think for one second you know it all cause thats when you will be taken for a ride!
yes i know, you just wanted to know what book is good, but i thought id share somethings that has made me a better businessman! aint that why you buying the book?!
