When you sample...

Do you go from the DJ mixer or whatever to your sampler? Or do you maybe use some kind of amp or something? Any other processors before the sound reaches the sampler? And if you're just going from the DJ mixer to the sampler do you EQ at all?

Me - I go from my DJ mixer to my sampler. No EQing. I would do that later, if I ever actually record a song.

If you don't mind, share your sampling techniques...

What do you want to achieve? You can sample right into your mpc or through valve preamps, a bunch of effects, etc. It all depends on the result you'd like to have in the end if you ask me. The sky is the limit.

Me too. When I get some money I would like to get some effects though.

I just record into cool edit pro off a record. Chop dat chit up etc, then load it into the MPC.

Sampling done.

I sample straight into my sampler, and then from there chop, or loop, and use whatever effects are in my sampler. then once i track out the song I'll eq, mix some more....

What's up spectre, when I sample i allways try to get the sound like I want it before it goes into the 60. I didn't used to do like this but I like my results alot bettter now when my drums are knockin in the mpc and the music is eqd correctly. Peace.

i have my turntables running with a pioneer efx500(optional) into a mixer(more eq) then into my mpc. I'm diggin this setup, it gives me a few options to get the sample as close to how i want it before it's in the mpc.

Just wondering, how many people actually eq before they record?

I take it from my Vestax 07 DJ mixer, to the sp303, perhaps thru the asr-10 and then to the mpc1000.

i sample flat most of the time.

I eq my kicks before I send them into the mpc, makes them boom more. I like my beats to sound how I want them before I mix. Less mixing is better in my opinion. I will add some bass to my kick and usually i will turn the bass up on the sample too before i bring them into the mpc

Yeah, if you get each sample sounding banging before you put it in the MP, it will most likely sound good together and you wont have a lot of work to do with routing samples, EQ'ing, compressor and all that when you mix the beat. It will also be a lot more motivating to work on a beat if it sounds bangin as you start to program it.
