samples and programs

Does anyone have any input on programing samples....
Do u find it more efficent to make songs with a program made exclusive for that one song??
like going through ur samples on ur 1000 and assigning samples to a
program just for that song or.......
just loading multiple programs initially and use all those diff progs???
which do u find more efficent?
Or is there even a better way...

if i start with the sample first, ill lay down what i think i want the beat like

then play that and let it play and loop. go on the computer and start hittin different sounds. whatever sounds right behind the sample (and whatever gets closest to how the beat is in my head), i load up. easiest way in the world!
