Nice said! sometimes i think exactly the same on other topics! but i think thats basically nothin else as the mpc! imo there are so many ways to approach this machine that anyone builds and finds in a way its own! and i think that is good so!
i for example never extend a sequence to 80 bars, or record track mutes! i 've recently read about that and thought exactly the same as you! **** why do i never use that? dunno!
and what i also think is that the more you get to know a feature the quicker, the more comfortable you work and thus the more often you work with it! usually i also played my beaz, basses, ... all in without quantizing! but sometimes it can be quit handy! ... if you want certain samples to be exactly the same long, or short, or straight 1/16 notes or whatever its easy! set the right quantize and you just have to record it once instead of 5 times! if you want a string sound to be exactly 1 bar long its easier to record it with a quantize of 1/8! the value of your record fits then exactly! without quantize or timing correction its much more difficult but its surely good for your skills! if your good at this keep it!
swing: shifts certain notes from its precise level (depending on its setting)! it adds a kind of natural feel to the things you've played! it can also be used very precisely in most music styles (swingm ahh dubmonkey

is the man for it at the topic techno&house)! check that out!
either way! ... bump your beaz in there!

cheers
