That's an old trick. They use to do that in the 60's and 70's. They would put a woofer on the front of the kick drum and mix that in with the regular mic. A speaker and a mic are both transducer's (converts input energy of one form into output energy of another.) It is just that a mic is tailored for better frequency response. But on the kick you don't need much of a frequency response. Try it. It works.
