Usher track 10/11 drum programming

Does anyone have any info on creating the same type of off beat lazy feel drum programmming which is on the new usher album.

I don't have a problem with the sound source and stuff but there seems a style that catz do with these lazy beats.

Butterfly had it on the jackson album.

They push the SNARE early the late also the kik and hats are droping on diff times.

Wanna know if the hatz should be following the same drops as the snare and kiks................also how many late and early ticks are being used.

Also the Rims are dropping just after the snares....but are these on the the beat or random.

I can get the groove close on a 8 bar loop but when it comes back around again it doesn't flow back to the front of the groove again.



Any ideas!!!!!

do you have recycle? if so feed the loop in there..export the midi file et voila you have the note placements of the groove...

no i dont listen to usher so couldn't tell you what the songs sound like let alone the beats....

you need recycle before you can extract a midi file from a loop.....

Are you saying that you can import a drumloop int recycle, and it will export it as a .MID file, so you can use your own drum samples with that pattern?(I've never used ReCycle before)

If so, that sounds dope, but is'nt that kinda cheap? Its like tracing someone else's shit in art class...

yup recycle will tell you where the hits are via a midi file.....

cheap? well it only tells you note placements....not velocities or anything like that.....so you cant recreate the groove just from the recycle midi file you still need to get your hands dirty....

so its no cheaper than using a drum loop from another record....

if you have Logic Audio you can import any .WAV file and create a quantization groove to the same swing. You could just import the usher loop, create a groove template, program your drums, and then quantize to the usher groove you created....works great sometimes

I can program some kik ass drumz but this project i'am working on needs that kinda feel.........can't say i've programmed that way before.

I agree (i hate lifting drumz) but just wanna get the drop points on the kik and snare right.

If anyone as programmed this vibe drop me some info!!!!!

I ghetto way of doing it is sampling the usher song in the MP, make a 2 bar loop of the sample. Program drums over top the track exactly where they are on the usher track, then open step edit mode and take a look! It should show you the exact same pattern that was used for the song...just don't worry about how it sounds...your just looking to get the pattern.

Im sure you can PT is well advanced. Just get out that Manual and stuff with it, or get on the PT forums (if they have 'em) Im a Cubase man tho!!!

yeah i often do that by copying my bars accross so have 32 or even 64 bars....keep playing over the top and finding the bar which sounds the best....you need that many bars so you can really get into the groove of it....once done delete the crap takes et voila!
