That snare crack

IM trying to figure out how the hell to get a nice crisp snare
The one that sounds like a whip crack!

Its frustrating already, ive layered and cut the sample short and im starting to get it
but trying to figure out how

any help appreciated

speed one snare up like crazy filter it and add resonance. layer it w/ another snare so the the filtered snare gives more snap at the begining of the drum hit. try using a wood block percussion sample or some other ish for an organic drum sound.

also try layering with a rimshot or a clap. I always use low attack setting on the clap to make it sound a litlle better.

well your main goal would be to find a dope snare first off, then get another one, pitch the weaker one if need be to have it sound similar to the first snare. keep the dope snare loudest, layer the weaker one lower and then assign the dope one to another pad, make sure youre at full volume, lower the frequency to the 15-30 range depending and then layer that with the other two, adjust levels on your mixer accordingly, but itll give it more boom. sometimes its too much, so when you track out, just eq the fuzz out.

sample it in 12 bit, add a touch of high end distortion if needed, i used to add distortion and it worked nicely...and just have your snare louder then other drums... if it hits red, lower all level of the other instruments, so your snare is out in front, trust it will bang then

sample some vinyl crackle..and layer it!

one of the snares in the newest free sample pack on the akai site is great. Its one of the samples in the sakata drum machine...cracks real nicely...would be nice to use layered as well
