how do you sample off cd?

I don't got turntables yet, but I do got some cd's of old jazz that
I want to sample the snare and part of the melody. How would
I go about doing it? I got the 2000xl. Also, ain't it vital
to have the 8 outs, mixer, and effects?

plug a cd player into the back of your mpc oR if u have a cpu...use an audio program to chop it up and save it as a wav. Acid or cool edit is good for that

Cool Edit rips songs off of CD's, I use that. It also reads waves, mp3, wma, snd etc... You can just open an entire song and select whatever portion you want.

Get any program that rips CD's and have a program that can edit the ripped wma, or mp3, or wave

It's not really vital to have the 8 outs or the effects if you're still in the process of learning how to sample.. A mixer would make your life a bit easier, but you can hook up your mpc to your home stereo. I ain't got the dough so that's what I'm doing... Ghetto approach all the way baby!
