i find it easier to sample parts from a session. My brother plays the guitar well, but when i try to get him to play to a hiphop beat, in a way that i think is good, it doesnt mesh well. I think its because what he feels, adn plays just doesnt match the same vision as mine. He plays blues, and doesnt really worry about hiphop riff etc. like i would if i could play like he did-so really sampling something that wasnt necessarily planned out can have some better groove to it.

We knew a musician like that, too. He was very, very stubborn and wanted to stick with an old funk formula that was great, but we needed him to pick up the pace. Those were some tough sessions, lol. Eventually we got around to just sampling and mangling what he did into what we needed, but he was pissed and just refused to understand what we were going for with bass and basslines...but, we eventually did run into someone who listened to those takes, asked what we wanted, told us what he could understand, and realized we were "breaking some rules" with him. He loved it. Loved doing it. Loved being baffled at our sense of music and "tone".
