Im sorry for the retarded question but im bout to **** freak out on the mpc. i usually record right to tapes becauseive never really botheredlearning the mpc and how to save. everytime ive tried all ive done is lost beats. I guess one of the problems is i have no idea about the whole program shit, i just sample drums or load a couple drum sounds from disks and then sample melody then make beat. If someone could please help me because im bout to take a hammer to the mpc over all the damn beats i just lost.

read the manuel before you pick up the sledgehammer for real you can't save? Are you having trouble saving the programs itself or the samples you gotta be more clear read the manual then ask a question about a specific thing rather than saying I can save and I"mma bout to break shyt

yo man goto save then make a newfolder, press open window then new, then u need to save an .all file then an .aps file. 2 files. .APS and the .ALL !!!!!!!!!!!!

each beat is 2 major files:
1-all song and seq's
2-multi (with programs and samples)

like homeboy said make a new folder for each beat

im sayin that i really dont understand the whole programming speal, and yes i read the manual and it jus doesnt make sense. I do my beats by loading some sounds off some sound disk that came wit my mpc and I sample, i guess i dont get the whole saving shit because the two times ive attempted i lost multiple beats. and i always save all songs and seg then all programs and sounds, and everydamn time i try and load them my beats magically disapear.

THE WAY I AVOID LOSIN BEATS IS BY SAVING EVERYTHING THAT U CAN POSSIBLY SAVE, I AGREE THE SAVING PROCESS IS KINDA SLOPPY I STILL LOSE SHIT SUMSTIMES

This is the same issue with using the .ALL format I was talking about on another thread earlier this week. It makes it easy to lose stuff.

I simply take the time to name my programs and my sequences and save frequently (as .pgm files and .mid files not that .ALL mess)

Everytime I make a new variation of a beat I simply serialize the filename (add a 1 at the end, then a 2, then 3, etc.) and save the new version.

I have used this method on my mpc for like 4 years now and never lost a thing. Not one beat. I lost one beat at the begining because I used the .ALL method and started doing this.

You lost that beat because you didn't understand how the all file works. I explained in that thread how you would acomplish what you wanted with the all file format. It is a good thing that there are many ways to save, that way you can use what works best for you.

Exactly, which I why I was offering another way of saving his work to him than was being suggested. People were suggesting the way that was losing him work.

If you are a beginner the difference between programs, sounds a sequences can be more than a little bit abstract.

I am not saying the .ALL doesn't work for a lot of you out there, I am simply saying that I find it easier on a nonXL (where I can't make folders) to just name my programs and sequences and save them as such. I am sure if I could simply make a new folder everytime I work on a new song and save the ALL file into that it would be easy, but I do not have the XL.

I never lose anything, I save a PROGRAM AND SOUNDS and select WITH SOUNDS. then I do SAVE A SEQUENCE for each individual sequence.

Just save APS and ALL. That's it - you shouldn't be losing anything.
