How to get that BIG sound?

how can I layer sounds in Adobe Audition (Cool Edit Pro) or Soundforge ?

When going by sound tape always wins. When going by convinience and cost, digital wins, but when people compare the sound, they tend to compare the most expensive digital with the average old tape studio.

2" inch analog does have a great sound...But, I still believe it boils down to the engineer and his/her ears. I've heard bad recordings/mixes coming from 2" analog/SSL 9000J combos....I've heard great recordings/mixes coming from Cubase VST using internal mixing.

You want your ish to sound loud get your drums loud and thick as possible or needed (cuz you don't always want thick ass drums it depends on the track), and turn everything else up to match it. Compression on the instruments can make stuff louder and more clearer also I always add just a little reverb on drums and instruments, you don't wanna overdo the reverb though or it will sound like trash

Try the Aphex 204. It works wonders on a mix. There's also a software version, but I've never used it.

I have both the hardware and software version...In my opinion, the hardware version sounds better...That actually seems to be the case with most software versions of hardware units....Plugins and hardware processors are both usefull when worked in conjunction within any production enviroment.
