woo. big snare sample. I did it myself!!

I guess a lotta folks know this already but i'm all jazzed about learning it by myself. I am learning how to sample my friend's drum kit into my S1000 (and makin myself crazy waiting for my mpc-60 to arrive!) and like just a close mic on the snare through the mixer into the sampler was a little dull sounding. So then it hit me that a drum kit is a whole instrument with the rest of the kit so I put an overhead mic above the kit. 'ola here we go that was much better. Then I got fancier and ran the channel with the overhead mic through a reverb and played around with some sounds... I could get all kinds of drum sounds from huge to weird to plain and dry just with the same drum, playing with the settings on the mix and reverb. whoa. cool beanz.

Good job!! Don't forget to hit the snare hard and soft, double sticks, hit that lever that takes the springs off the bottom. Good Job.

but yo elmacao quick question?! When I sample the ride cymbal how long should I set the sample time to do you think? Because like the sound will be cut off when I am playing the sample in a sequence on the 60 if I set the mode the right way for the pad/note# but the ride by itself would keep on ringing.

sample it long, then trim it to what you want and add some decay in the envelope stage. Or the release envelope, then you won't get the cutoff issue.
