Another option would be Cubase, Sonar, Logic, which will give you high quality Virtual Instruments that would **** all over Fruity Loops for quality... Interface using a M-Audio 410 or Motu 828 and you have a major instrument not just a Recording Interface.... You can easiliy mix down into seperate wav's and load into any program if need be...
The advantage of your Yamamha is that its can be used as a Mixer...

true....i use to use my Akai dps16 as my front end. E.G. id permanantly have all my gear connected and all the outs assigned. Then when i felt like putting it to cd i would just hit record. Once it was recorded and all the levels where good. Id start mixing it, because there where physical knobs on the dps, it was fast and easy....i could then apply eq to some tracks as well and get a better mix. Then i would send the digital main outs to my computer and record in sonar to put it to cd.
Right now, i just use a regular mixer and sonar with an audiophile 2496. I sold my dps16 for the money, but i was happy with the setup. I frequently just recorded beats on it, and never put stuff to cd. It was easier to preview a beat on it, then to have to reload everything....this was especially nice for freestyle sessions...i could just find a beat and start recording right away. ANd since my gear was already connected and ready, if i wanted to record a new beat, i didnt have to stop, i could just hit record.
Sonar has been working, but I need a sound card with more inputs, so i plan on going for the protools digi 002. I also plan on charging studio time when i sell my beats, for those who want a recording of thier vocals over my beats....ive got friends who use protools, and it looks perfect for what i need...I also have another who uses motu, and he pumps out some good ish, although ive never tried it, and im unsure what software he uses. All in all, everybody i know who uses protools is happy, and most of them just record and sell beats. My other friend records live gig sessions with a digi 002.
also i am not feelin sonar, its nice that the hardware and software come together. anyways, just an idea
