The whole looping sections argument is the product of the MC as Diva disease that is rampant now. **** the MC. If he can't write a rhyme to fit 8, 12, or 16bars, then **** him. If he likes the beat he will adapt the rhyme or write another one. Or you can always edit the multitrack recording. This guy is just an asswhole who must convince others that his way is the best way. Not everyone works the same way. If he can't accept that and must further the ProTools domination despite the facts, **** him, find another way to do what you need. You don't pay him for abuse.
exactly man, mcs think they are divas. i mean for cryin out loud-every **** hiphop song ive listen to follows the same damn format. if they cant write to it, then they suck, not the arrangement of the beat. Not to have an ego of our own, but it is all about confidence, because youve created the spark, the beat is your vision-dont let someone else take it away.
Think about it. Think of all the mcs who do mix tapes with jay z beats, or dre beats. Do you think they freakin call up dr dre and are like "man, can you extand that verse, or drop that instrument out hear?" hell no, they write thier shit to what they got.
it pisses me off. youd be suprised at how pushy they get, and even worse shit dont get done because they think they know it all. In my particular cases, not to ramble, but ive tried just about every way to work with other artists, being flexible, giving the "not finished work, get back to me" etc etc.-they always come back with lame ideas, impossible ones, or nothing. If your beats are finished in arrangement (with exception to mixing, eq etc) then something can be written to it solid, because this is what it is, and what you have to work with. The idea of uncertainty, makes people lazy, or unproductive.
Youve got to lay down the law "this is how i want my shit to be" not "what do you think?....mama" BECAUSE you know how you want your shit to sound, you are just using the engineer to get there.
there is a reason you are the producer and they are the mc. let the producer produce, mc mc, engineer mix and eq.
