yo, list some beats with no drums - or atleast very very,very minimal drums. some that come to mind for me are:

jake one - home

97 Mentality

black milk - duck

If it has no percussion, would it still be a beat or just a melody?

Not really. A beat is technically classified as a measurement of music, typically in bars. So...

yeah, im thinking along the lines of hiphop beats with no hard hitting drums. something someone has spit to with non normal hiphop drums. know what i mean? i guess percussion could be in there still. but no boom clack.

if you can rap to it you can keep time to it, if you can keep time to it i'd call it a beat...

ANY Kanye track BEFORE someone else fixed the drums for him (Timbaland must have changed his phone number a couple of times)!
