Sampling quality: vinyl vs CD

Do you prefer sampling from vinyls or CD's? It basically boils down to analog vs digital for initial samples... What are your opinions on that?

i cant vote, where is both just because i kinda am in both camps, vinyls needs good needle and good preamp and you can kinda boost and cut easilly with dj mixer so thats good. Also bass enharmonics but not much, as your sampling cd quality anyways, but some records do have that extra wide groove foe good bass. that cd is no noise and easy to just pop in and go. but really i miss my 1200s, i need to get some again, just so you can sample ya favourite break getting scratched up and juggled.

sampling from vinyl is where it all began. i think the purists prefer vinyl. sampling from cd is easier and requires less work. i prefer vinyl, i like the pops and cracks. i also love my vinyl collection. i'll sample from anywhere though. i feel more 'hip hop' when i sample from records! digging for records is like half the fun for me.

I havn't buy any CD the last 10 Years or so but I bought ?3000 or so vinyl records so the answer should be clear.

I find going through a record is easier then a cd because you see the grooves and know where to drop the needle... also if you want to bring it back a few seconds it is easier to lift the needle and swing it back a few rings.

gotta agree with the vinyl lovers, the diggin is fun, if in using digital i just sample into ableton my xl is strictly for fun and enjoying the old methods

viynl is better and funner imo, but i sample from cds and mp3's more often

yea diggin through vinyl is much more fun then going through cds or mp3s...... the process is what its about...

depends on what your sampling and how clear u want it all to be and what sound your going for

I prefer the vinyl but as the last few record shops around my way close up and the record expos get further apart I have less options....damn shame.
