Curious where they get there bass from.

I just picked up gift of gab's latest effort. I was curious if anyone recognizes where jake one gets his base from. It sounds like it is not sampled bass. rather produced from some type of equipment. If anyone has any leads on it or know of any products that produce bass like this please hit me up. I like sampleing bass from records but I'd like to be able to control and make my own bass as compared to what has already been made.

Get up on DJ Magic Mike cd's(Cheetah Records). I sample his stuff cuz he's got crazy bass.

at the site that starts with "ken" and ends with "fen". The DjAz kits are teaming with killer bass sounds. Check out the demos on the site.

On Gift of Gab, thats a Triton bass, theres about 50 basses on the Triton....

But to this day, the only bass sound I really trip off, on some where the fu#$ did he get that/make that type deal is the old J Dilla bass.

I'm having fun with pure bass tones: sine and triangle waves. This is what I hear in some hip-hop and techno. I mean, when it goes that low, sometimes all you need is the pure sinewave tone to flap the woofers, keep the bass range super-clean and highlight what's going on above. But if you play two sinewaves side by side, the "beating" modulation can be nasty, especially on the MPC1000 with the "Bit Cruncher" distortion.

what do u use to get pure sine waves? oscillator?

Tools>Synthesis>Simple

i think j dilla got an ms2000 for his bass.

I'm pretty sure those older records were just samples filtered and played with the note off.

shit it would be nice if I can get my girls pop to record some baselines for my beats. He too busy though!

yeah you can do that but it wouldnt even sound real... its just an attack with a little decay and ver long sustain and then a release... it would sound stupid. that shit is better for layering

Yeah well someone said pure sine and triangle waves, that's a good place to get em... I never said they sound hot right out the box... Like you said, good for layering, but also, like DubbleD said, you can make em sound good if you experiment a little... example, creat a sign wave that peaks at like 55-65 hz, make it the length in seconds of and 1/8 note in whatever tempo you are working in, then highlight it and do a fade out, boom, you have something like an 808 kick...
