Kanye article / Sampling code of ethics.

OK, I just scored the new SCRATCH magazine with the Kanye article.
In that interview, he admits to jacking drum sounds off of other producers' records, and straight up racking drums directly from Eminem's zip disk.

This made me wonder, how many of the dudes in here follow a code of ethics when it comes to sampling?

Some guys are just like only original vinyl, no CDs, no sampling off other rap producer's tracks, no reissues, etc.
Other guys are like, **** it, all's fair in love, war, and art - and sample ANYTHING......like sampling Dre's drums straight off The Chronic.

Where do you stand?

whatever sounds good, its not 1988, where there are still breaks out there, at least drum wise. **** it. i just posted how i went through all my old 12"s today and created kits.

no samples barred in the new millenum. Just make sure you smack it up, flip it, & rub it down.

Sample what you want to. it's like we are all using the same gear, and the same records. It's all about the personal touch you put on your tracks.

well, i still use breaks for my drums...i dont care...if they been used before; and i dont consider this jackin someone elses drums. i love the sound of breaks, and thats an element i want to keep in hiphop. Some times i dont even flip them.....straight breaks. i make them mine with my instrumentals.

i mean really dude. i can do my own boom bap with sampled hits...but something about looping breaks inspires me.


as far as anything other than drums....i wouldnt jack any of that from another producer.......gotta dig for that.

I take almost all my stuff off of vinyl, for the sound....original if possible. Sometimes I'll take something off a cd, or a reissue if I have to.
I respect hardcore diggers, but I'm more of a softcore digger. If I take a sample from an "unholy" source, I always try to chop and layer and tweak the sounds so that they become my own. That way it almost doesn't matter where the sound comes from.

drum wise, ill take anything, melody wise, i try to find my own ish

Where there is a clean drum hit, no matter what it's as good as sampled.
Chopping old and new breaks, whatever sounds right for the track.

I agree, drum wise I'm jacking it. I don't care if it's still on Billboard, that snare is mine!!!!

i would never sample drums from someone recent or any other hiphop artist. but thats me, i just think its cheesy and lame. there is so much dope stuff if you actually look for it, i mean its not that hard people are just lazy.

I sampled a nasty kick from one of Pink's album. I straight up don't care. If it sounds good, and you can mix your own style on it, so what? How is it any different then all the "real" drum kits out there that everyone uses, yet they all sound different? It how you put it together...
