we all know tht pro tools converters are not best for the price range of the 002r. and you have to use pro tools mixing facilities with its native hardware.

what if you had to actually buy the m. box pro tools system for like half the price of the 002 , use a motu interface to record your tracks into the pc, or emu 1820 , running at 192khz. save them as wave files then import them into your liitle mbox, and do al your mixing in there?

i personally am looking at tht tascam fw1824, for the money tht is absolutelt breakers, nothing can touch it for now.

using a hardware controller , so you get all the hands on benefits of mixing in pro tools while using thier award wining plug ins, along with all the other benefits. it has to offer.

your gonna bounce down to stereo any way so you export through the mbox, spend the left over cash on some proper pre amps, like the focusrite platinum series, tht have digital interfaces,.

hit me up yall , tell me what you think of this, any pitfalls or benefits, i may have over looked

peace.

ok i did some research, and yes it is more than possible to have such a set up. i tried this with an HD system running a control 24. i just burnt off the waves onto a cd and imported them in with out any trouble. also for those who ever do video editing, you can intergrate straight from avid software, to prot tools for post production sound. it will apparently break down all your tracks from in avid put them on the time line and give you a video window to view what your doing, damn great for short films and music videos.

i think when i start making some money then i will go for the 002r butfor now i will work with the mbox. and invest in some pre amps.

oh and where i am from this store doing a special deal on those tascam fw1884, you get the 8 fader expansion board for half price, so you have a 16 tracks of flying faders fully automatable, for like 1200. the expansion board alone is worth tht.
not only tht, this got like 8 insert points , 7.1 surround, or you could use it as stereo out leaving 6 for aux sends or whatever.
the only thing is no counter or scribble pad.
i think i hsve found my studio set up.

The fw1824 looks really tight. If you can spare the room that is.. :)

Edit: It does have ADAT in, or am I mistaken?

Sounds good skala, but you ought to check into other options, the PT hardware thing is fraught with boobytraps by design so as to encourage you to upgrade.

You could consider something like an RME Fireface, and a controller like the B-control fader. You'll have less controll options and buttons, but better sounquality and an aditional ADAT. The price will be about the same.
I looked at that Tascam myself, but i didn't like the faders. Also the rotary controllers don't "show" what position they're in. And it was a bit too big for my desk.
I use the RME hdsp9652 and b-control now. The b-control is pretty basic but it works well.

hey ieism, thanks for tht.

i did notice tht with, the tascam, the rotary encoders dont have position leds, neither a clcock, . nor scrible pad, nor input feds, with in tht price range hui offers tht. so does digi designs control surface, the eight channel one.

i was always skeptical about behringer. i goona do some more reserach, see what i come up with.

blessed love.

i did some checking around, tht rme card is dope. definately, the behringer controller, well, not so sure. i gonna be going commercial, so yes i am buying a name. i dont want to talk like 60% of the time justifying, let the work asnd the gear do the talking, hence the only reason i wanna get p tools.

apart from tht, tht set is very decent. in the us, stuff is mad cheaper, like the mackie control surface it is 300 like 600 hunderd cheaper in the states. dang.
but the mackie is definatley looking good.
it is the biz.

but the thing tht drew me to tascam in tht it has harware insert points, my rack of compressors and out board will become next to redundant, also it has aux sends. 6 to be precise, is there any way of me still using another set up with my outvoard, also if i record at 192 and downsample to 96, would it be like shrinking a igh quality jpeg to smaller file, ie holdings it quality and looking better, or is it going mess with the sound charateristics. and is there major difference in sound, or it more to do with the fact tht you can use more plgins, (having more headroom)

if i can route my outboard with the mix, i would be pleased,
any feedbacks

thanks??

The RME is the BEST SOUNDING CARD OUT THERE PERIOD!!!

Nothing compares to it, nothing. They invented 96k Adat and gave it to the world.

You just cant **** with them krauts ;)

PT sells more on ignorance than any other audiohardware manufacturer. It's the groovebox of recording.

If you record at 192kHz, and downsample to 96 you probably won't even hear the difference.
I was in a studio to track some vocals for a friend, and they recorded @ 192kHz. I didn't want to use that at home cause my beats were in 48, so i asked them to bounce it to 48kHz. Even on their $5000 monitors i could only hear a slight difference in depth/imaging. And my ears are pretty good still.

ok break it down to me, what is the hype about 192 khz, what is it advantage , i know one of its disadvatages is tht it takes twice the disk space,

i it really neccesary, cause i cannot justify why protoools hd system are so damn expensicve. i am even understanding now about this 32 bit floating tht nuendo has and prottols doesnt. also i am understanding not all 24 bit is "24 bit",

i gonna spend a wad of cash and idont want to buy anything else for a good time to come.

i apprecite the help guys.

By Scott Thu Jan 20, 2005 3:37 pm
wtf is the point in anythin above 16bit 44khz?!!?
