Question for the masses

Does everyone on this site use song mode or do they just leave there beats as a sequence.

I have a MPC1000 so it might be called something else on the bigger brother but I hope you guys know what I mean

I use song mode all the time.

Use a 1k too btw.

I never use song mode. I used to track my patterns in Logic but now I just record the whole mix (MPC, SP, synths & FX) straight to stereo through the Mackie board. I create up to 4 or 6 patterns on both the MP and the SP and switch those on the fly.

I usually do 3 or 4 mixes per song and then just pick the best one.

ill jam first then program whatever ivce com with in terms of mutes and drops into song mode so i can mess around over that and not have to worry about missing a pad when doing that perfect live take...

Not really, I can see how it could be handy for live stuff or a final mix, but Im not really at either of those levels yet still just f*C**ng around with it all. While we're on this subject, I'd be interested to know how many peeps use step edit? I still cant see the point myself, if I dont like a track/recording I just delete & start again. Like I say still in the playing stages but maybe some of you guys can give me some tips

Song mode is the shiznit son but the only thing is you cannot rec
in song mode the sequences must all ready be recorded then you
can arrange your sequences in song mode which is great cause
you can just stream it into Protools.


And hey like you guys Iam still trying to find a clue myself as far
as the Mp but this makes things alot simpler.

What I like to do(this goes for any MPC)is make small sequences like intro,Verse,Hook,Break and then what I do is take those and make a song out of them.Once it's converted to a song I then take and convert that song back to a sequence so that I can further add stuff over the top.Working this way allows you to basically record while your song is playing.

That is exactly what I do sometimes. Like when you wanna add a crash cymbal every now and then. Instead of making more sequences with slightly different configurations you can just do it that way

save all your original sequences though. Cuase its a pain, if you end up not liking your song........or you have to adjust it for the emcee!

I use everything I can to get my stuff the way I want it.

yup step edit is just as useful as the ability to tap stuff in...

I use step edit alot to subtract things out. I use song mode and convert to seq. all the time.

Once I get a rough outline of the rhythm tracks, in song mode. I convert the song to a sequence. Then, I over dups more tracks acrosss the whole song.

song mode is very usefull

Thats the best way to do it. Its also the easiest.
