What are the advantages to Doubling Sequence Tempo?

I find that a lot of producers like to double their sequencers tempo in order to increase the resolution. For example, a 92 BPM track is really recorded at 184 BPM. I personally never used this option. I guess between the swing and the different quantize settings I never felt the need. Could someone break this down for me?

I used to use it on sequencers that only let you identify a BPM by whole numbers, so if we doubled the BPM we could work in .5s.

ie sample is at 82.5 so we would set the sequencer to 165

u might aswel just use quantize

you double the time signatures....1/8 becomes 1/16...1/16 becomes 1/32...1/32 becomes 1/64...Thats one advantage...on the MPC you will now get 1/64 time signature...For the last year at least, I've done all my beats at double the normal bpm...of course you get more ppqn...imo, it gives me more creativity...

Also, on the SP12(00) you can only have 8th note swing, so the only way to get 16th note swing on the SP is to double the tempo. A lot of producers who started on the SP still use double tempo by default on other machines because that's what they're used to.

I use it a lot too, it can help make it sound less quantized, and even with no TC engaged.

I use it damn near all the time. I can get more intricate with my ticks, kicks, tricks and resolution (u like that rhyme). I mainly use it when I make those slow hard beats that need that fast rhyme feel to them like most of Twisters songs (and that older Busta Rhymes like "Gimme Some More").

i have my MPC tempo set to default at 188

I've used tempo's all over the place, I have no normal really. 150-180 maybe. Anywhere in there is good for me though. My regular (not doubled) timing has even gone as low as 59bpm. I push limits and MAKE the mpc do what I want, I won't take no for an answer from an mpc, who does he (my 2kxl) think he is telling me "no", the nerve of this guy, neva mind.....
