Prefuse 73 choppy loops ?

all the articles i've read On him he states that he use soley the MPC 2000 for all his sampling and sequencing. No plugins, NO computer. Any idea how he gets those supper choppy loops and vocal slices. I know it’s impossible to find a magic answer but was wondering if anyone had any insight on this style of production

with great care id imagine, he probably does a number of different things- im sure that not every single slice is carefully considered over and some is just blips to fill holes but i would imagine he uses the chop into 16 function quite a lot, a lot of keyspanning, tuning etc-

its the sequencing that gets me......maybe try recycling one of his beats to see where the beats dominantly lie...

yeah thats a wicked ep- the pencils, bottles track is just sumblime-

also his stuff as Savath & Savalas is cool, much more free form and jazzy but with some digital glitch too- of course excellently produced...

i do think that there must be some elemenst of external processing, find it hard to believe its ALL mpc...

I downloaded one of his tracks, Hot winter's day. I could see that being done on a 2000... it doesn't sound too complicated.

All he's doing is chopping shit to bits. I mean there's no real magic to it but to just sit down and do it. Just find a loop and chop it to death, not just one or two beat chops, but tons of little blippy chops to fill in the gaps. Like someone else was saying, I think a lot of it has to do with just interesting programming. A lot of his stuff sounds like maybe he's letting the needle jump as he's sampling in too.

just picked up the new album- smooth.......

on the back it says 'everything was recorded with an mpc at...'

so i guess that settles that...

what mpc? i dunno prolly a 3k or 2k
