Can reason compete with an Mpc? (sound quality)

Aight, here it goes:


I have had a MpC forever. Right now its a 4000. Its a complete beast. Ive also got numerouse other modules. But on the come up I got 300 sample cds from variouse companies. These cds were once in my MPc but since you cant audion patches, I put them in resaons nn-xt.

So my question is, to the bangers here, can reason quality wise sound as good or better than an mpc.


(my answer: for the last month or two I havent ouched my mpc or modules, unless im using the mpc to sequence then dumping the midi file into reason, its been great, the saving ad recalling is killer. Quality wise I did a blind test with some friends, and no one could tell wich tracks I did with the mpc, and wich I did with reason)

Yes Reason is as good as the MPC, I go back and forth all the time between the MPC and Reason and people can never tell which tracks were made on what..

Check out the tracks and tell me if you can tell the diff....

If i were to guess I would say: relax and bones were both reason tracks.

out of the box mpc sounds better but if you fool around with reason for any lenght of time reason kills the mpc.

I used Reason 1.1 for about 1 year before I bought my MPC, I think if Reason is set up properly, you have a decent processor and heaps of RAM, and a MIDI controller, it can be as good.

Still, Its GM, so its never as responsive and tight as the MPC. Also, I hate Microsoft, especially when you've just come up with some hot sh*t and then Windows decides to be a f*ckwit and crash on you, losing everything you've just done - hell naw, gimme the MPC any day.

The only thing i've found is that you need other gear with the MPC to make it worthwhile - Sound Modules, heaps of samples, extra RAM, ZIP drives etc.

Saving periodacilly always helps, oh yeah. GET A MAC! Also reason set up the right way (as a sound module) with an mpc doing the sequencing is off the hook! the saving process is easy too! Plus all your sounds are in one place, then you just take your midi file and put into reason and walla! Or you can sync your mpc to your recording app and track out using rewire, no , noise floor or a/d conversions to woorie about, unless you r ike me and want to run your stuff through tubes and pre amps befor tracking out.

check out LL tracks, a few have been done with reason. it's in the credits.

It Doesn't matter what road you choose, you'll always have to get other stuff to make it sound right.

Any reason track on a major label release has seen serious processing.

Some Britney tracks were done in reason.
