In my opinion tha biggest thing is #1 not using enough percussion sounds. Its not all about kick snare programming and Hit hats. ITs about kick snare programming and SMART highhat placement. Biggest problem is most producers only focus on kick snare and not enough about the other sounds. The way u realy get your beat to tell a story is with the quiet minute percussion sounds. Bring them in every few bars and drop them out. I use at least 10 tracks of straight percussion sounds, maybe more. I keep alot of them quiet so they dont stand out but you know that they are their and you can realy feel them in the track. Lots of shakers and closed hats and just simply lots of ethnic drums rockin realy crazy in the background.
Also ever since ****** dropped that post about rasing the resolution in double time Ive been doin that in all my tracks. It deffinately makes a huge difference in my tracks. I used to only double slow tracks like 70bpm to 140 but now i does it all the time ie. 90bpm to 180.
everyone post up your opinions and ideas its time to start learning from eachother again. Too much off topic convo lets get it poppin again
