How many of you also make beats using a computer?

I have an MPC 2k & I enjoy making beats on it, I find that my MPC beats are more focused on grooves & the whole process is highly enjoyable

But... I also make beats using only my audio pc and was wondering how many of you guys (lol if any) do the same?

I deffinitly made beats on the comp before i ever even used a mpc. I used to screw around with a few diff trackers back in the days of disk based os's. Played several instruments when i was younger in school (trumpet,flute,guitar). Got my first turntables when I was 16. Got a decent comp after that and got into more advanced stuff on puter. got my first sampler (sp-202).. midi controller. Started messing around with acid and fl. Now i petty much stick to cubase, just got my first mpc and being able to track shit into cubase is incredibly usefull. The combo of comp+mpc just makes my workflow much better. Now that I use the mpc in my stuff i could never go back to just computer.

I made my frist album with just software and records but now my studio is all hardware and I don't want to go back to software. I want to train my mind to think of things like sequencing with the MPC and I think going cold turkey off software is the only way.

There definitely has been a large number of producers who are turning back to good ol' Hardware to get the job done.

I personally don't blame them as some pieces of music made using computers sound completely lifeless even with so-called tube/warmth plugins

I use the combination of both. Akai S950 and S6000 as my samplers, sequence them with Cubase SE. I also use Reason, Kontakt and Trilogy for sounds.

I still don't have my MPC yet. But I find the combination of both softwares and hardwares works best for me so far.

i do most of my beat making on the computer.. that comment about music made on the computer being lifeless is not true. the beats i make on my 2k and in FL sound just about the same.

now do everything inside PT le with soft synths/samplers....

It depends what kind of mood we in. Kinda like variety is the spice o life but then sometimes you just wanna keep ish simple. Both can be fun and at times complex, you just gotta let the music take you.

it's the brain not the machine especially when u just talk about sample playback machines like the mpc.

get a screwdriver and open up all of the gear in your studio.
now open up your computer.
then compare the 2.
wow they don't look much different inside now do they? chips and boards.

Yeah, I made all my beats on a computer for 5 years...but in the last year I needed a change, so I went mostly hardware.

I use both all the time, I just never combine the 2. It's 2 different sounds and workflows, it's different experiences.

i came from a strictly hardware studio, sold everything, then bought 2 computers. its impossible to argue that hardware/software sounds better. (with the exception of analog) but computers lack the hands on feel of music making. control surfaces work, but sometime feel a bit removed from the process. i got a mpc2000 lately, and i do most of my sampling and drum work on the ahrdware. i then track to the computer and use vstis for instruments. or sometimes i sync them and track to another computer thru some outboards to fatten up sounds. computer are SO much more capable than almost all hardware out.

if yall insist on doing all your sequencing on the mpc, check out v-stack to turn your computer into a 16 part multitimberal sound module.

the computer is the brain of everything! the mpc-4000 is the heart, and the asr-10 is the breath of life ya dig?

i've used hip hop ejay, acid, cakewalk, fruity, cool edit, Reason and many others.

most recently i was using reason for everything. i did alright on reason and the effects are awesome but the second i started making beats on the MPC they started to groove alot better. Plus, like you said, it is SOOO much more enjoyable.
