im feelin u on that megaman. his shit is alright, but he should not have the status he has right now. commercial or not, hes not even on my top 10. the only thing IMO that stands out in his beats are his vocal samples.

My guess on how he does it is sampling at high speed and then tuning/pitching it down to fit his vision. You know using that old skool sampling technique heads use to use on the SP1200. I could be wrong but I doubt it. Well right or wrong that's my perception on the Kanye West method. ONE

wtf....so the less commercial you are....the more "all that" you are????........kanye is dope.......

at least he stands out........let him get his shine on.....i don't think he is the best but he def. is good...and i would say he knows his way around the MPC pretty good....if he didn't the thread starter wouldn't have started

I'm with you Prah_860_

It's a lot of guys out there that I don't particularly like, but I can still recognize quality. West is good, although I don't like all his ish... but I think that has more to do with his selection of songs than his sampling skills.......But then again I use modules more than samples, but I'm learning....END!!! :)

well he is obviously good because he wouldn't be getting that muchmoney for beats if he wasn't. but, to me he is just a perfect example of what premier was talkin about in the source about how producers don't really like what they are makiing they just know how to get the money, and knows that they are going to get their shit played on MTV. which is fine, if thats what your lookin for. and if i was offered that money, who knows, i might even do the same thing, but until then im gonna hate and say i don't really like him... peace

ha ha ha ha ha....i only somewhat agree about the money he gets......i don't really think swizz beatz was that great but he was getting $250,000 a track......hey you have to have a different outlook on it as if you were in his shoes.......he paid more than enough dues doing ghostbeatz and producing tracks he couldn't be in the studio with the artist for.......and to be where he is and to be a provider for more than 1 person....he can not go back to working at places like wal-mart like me and you can easily get away with(not that i would do it, but i can get away with it).....ppl would love to see that and he is not trying to give them the chance to enjoy that....imagine seeing just blaze or kanye west at target or walmart asking them "what happen to all the platinum?"......or "just blaze did you have to pawn the platinum ps2 joystick,dumb@$$?".........ppl would love that......i don't like to see no man down on his luck........i think kanye likes his music........there was a time when primo could've charged any price he wanted.....he is my favorite producer....but to these labels they treat him like small time because they don't spend alot of money to buy a track off him.........but in reality he is a legend...........i can't call it homie!!!

i totally agree. i have to admit tho, it would be funny as hell to see one of them workin in walmart or target. But primo's beats should be triple the amount of kanye's beats. there is no comparison. but that is what makes real primo different from money hungry kanye. The cool thing about primo is u can tell a primo beat. there are few people that can even come close to biting primos style... on the other hand, theres probably millions of little kanyes out there tryin to get noticed and gettin voice samples from barbara mason and shit. look at 9th wonder. his style is almost identical IMO, to kanye.

Kanye West is on another level. His beats are extremely soulful and he has many different styles (peep: ludacris - Stand up; no annoying vocal samples). I could remember the first time I listened to Jay-Z's Roc La Famila album, Kanye West put alot of emotion on the production of "This Cant be Life" which brought some hardcore cats from the hood to tears. He also destroyed (along with Just Blaze) "The Blueprint" album and Every single roc-a-fella album including Jay's new joint "the black Album".

You CAN'T compare DJ. Premier to Kanye West. DJ Premier is a "one track minded producer" who stays loyal to the underground - at some point heads with ears will start to question his production skills (Why your beats never evolved?) . Now Kanye West is more flexible, he could give you commercial and everything else, hence his cash flow in abundance while premier struggles to "break even" and sell x amount of records (Kanye = platinum plus, premier = wood - gold).

As far as skillz is concerned "Kanye West is a genious" - Jay-Z, and DJ PREMIER is an underground legend who never got the respect he deserved for "keeping it real" for all them years.

why can't u compare primo to kanye. they both produce hip hop beats and primo kills him even if his style never changed. So kanye made a few ill beats. but i think almost everything that primo made was ill. also can u explain kanyes many different styles cuz i only know of 2 of them. the stand up beat and all his other shit. and the reason he sells so much is cuz people are corny, hence kanye beats on TRL. and the blueprint and the black album are ok but are def. jayz's downfall. He could never make a album as ill as reasonable doubt. actually the black album kind of dissapointed me being that it was his last album and all. I thought he was gonna stepp it up crazy and come out with a bang. instead he just made and "ok" album. this is just my opinion tho, im sure many dissagree. peace
