Samples can be easier or harder depending if you know how to count BPM
I know my mpc will read the bpm to me automatically if I count the beats in the whole sample

Sometimes the best thing to do is get a stopwatch, then count 1234(5678) for 30 secs, then multiply times 2, and if you counted correctly you should have the BPM or extremely close

When I was first starting out tapping my feet to the beat almost never lied to me (was kinda like magic)

We are all made in God`s image!!!!! If I were him I would slow down the tempo to 60 to 70 BPM turn off the loop function, play in the melodies stop and set the loop on. Loops are melodies too if you resampled it or sampled off a records.

Apology accepted

i posted this a little bit ago
You need to go into trim and edit the sample. Sample two bars of a beat. Go into trim (shift + 5). Set the St: to the downbeat (first kick in the bar, the 1) and then goto End: hold shift + note varition slider. Find the end point. Use the data wheel to get up on the next 1 (begining or bar 3) and press open window to get a clean zero point. Now goto edit and "loop from start to end". Press do it. Goto LOOP (f2) on the trim screen. Turn LOOP:OFF to LOOP:ON and hold the pad down. Does it loop right? If so hit discard to get rid of the excess sample. Then turn loop off if you want.

Then you gotta find the BPMs of the sample. You can use timestrech in edit if you have an XL. Just press BPM and select how many beats the loop is. Change the new tempo to desired tempo. Or just note the BPMs. You can also turn loop on and loop from st, to end. And then go into the PARAMs to see what the BPMs are. By tuning it you increase/decrease bpms.

If we are homeboys and I don`t think you are from my hood, then we are brothers under God. Thus made in his image. I and you may differ on our beliefs but everyone bleeds the same.

God Bless

i hear a lota yall talkin about sampling what you need for your beat. things like bass, drums, etc. but how do yall get just that from a sample? im not sure if this is a clear question, but i want to sample some bass lines but im not sure what part of a song I would get this from. i guess if only the beat plays at the beggining or end of the song, i can sample that. then i can work with that i guess. i dont know...can someone give any tips?

Sure, but keep that off this site or in off topic. I am not trying to coerce you into my beliefs, so please respect the others here that do not share your beliefs by not talking in universals about extremely subjective views.

Hold up there elmacaco. Dude ask me if I think I`m god or not and I answered. I do think I`m god in spirit. Because you see A in the beginnnnnnnnnning there was a low lighta and a humming sounda and when I walked my fingeeeeeeers across the mpc`s pads and na and na music was born Amen And da the heads started bouncing and out of the 8" woofeeeeeeeeeeers came that big bassss and a booooooooooooming kick with a clap that struck like lighting and the people started moving their feet and the party people danced Amen. Yes I use my spirit thru God to make music. I can start a thread and ask anybody if they believe in God if I like when I like especially if they are being saracastic with me. This is music. Everytime I read the credits to my favorite artists they always credit God for their gifts check your own CDs. Being that I listen to R&B, Funk, Gospel, Jazz, Pop, 60 Jimmy Hendrix Rock, Soul, Hip Hop, just about any good music I have learned the important of the spirit in music period. How are you gonna have soul without the spirit?????? Without God where in the sam hill does inspiration come from? An amoeba? Look I have survive to live this long for a reason. You don`t know my struggle, so if you don`t understand just scroll on by. This is a forum of ideas, my point is inspiration come from the spirit and I believe God is the spirit as all my brothers you too even if you don`t accept it.

Take it from Snoop my man "Dear God I wonder if you can save me."

Kanye West "Jesus Walks"

Common "Geto Heaven"

Dr Dre "The Message" and it goes on

OutKast

Prince

Neptunes

Ludariss

and it goes on and on

Sure, but start a thread on it in off topic, you just kind of insterted that and it came off condescending like on some one true religion shit. I feel you on the spirit thing, but don't get on some born again preaching thing on the forum, it is very presumptuous to come off on some I know the true way bs, quoting the bible written by englishmen as if it is fact. If it works for you then cool, but you can't make generalizations like we are all made in Gods image when people may have other beliefs.

Remember the bible was used to justify genocide, slavery, not honoring treaties with Native Americans, all that is what you invoke when you insert that kind of certainty behind a statement like that.

What if I put in a post " we all know that there is one true God, Allah is his name and Mohammed is his prophet, all others are infidels and should be destroyed" before talking about step edit or some siht? It don't fit here, it is divisive and elitist. I mean, Bush says God talks to him for krissakes!

He invokes the same authority that you did. You wanna be in that company bro? Spirit is one thing, but saying that anyone has a more accurate map than anyone else is no good and usually drives that spirit away rather than manifesting it into our presence to bring us together.

I never thought you were calling yourself god. But keep your revival in the appropriate place (i.e. not here)

We all know Jesus was not the messiah, we all know that it was Judas that was crucified, we all know that Hebrews are the chosen people and not anyone else, all gentiles are cattle (Goyim) God chose us above all others and the rest of us don't even get the luxury of hell. And remember only 144,000 people get to go to Heaven, that's some serious elitism right there. And somehow, I don't think it's snoop and jimi ;)

I can't assume that you are with me when I specify certain beliefs, not to mention what it does is ask people to accept my beliefs before we can be one, and that is BS.

You can talk spirit all you want, but when you go specific you are not bringing anyone together, you are dividing.

That Halleluah stuff was a riot though, you should use that in a track.

Chill elmacaco, don`t put words in my mouth. Read carefully exactlly what I write. It seems that you may have had some bad experiences before in your family with others and you are reacting to your past. I don`t know what you, your family, or anyone close to you experienced before; however, I can talk about God from what I have learned and experienced in my life. From traveling around the world it seems to me everyone has their own language, traditions, customs, and beliefs. People may call a simple phone a different name in their language and according to their beliefs, but it is the same thing. Of course I don`t believe that 100 billion people are all wrong we just have different paradigm based on your points of view. To be point blank

I grew up listening to soul music. soul means spirit which means God. It could be the beat, groove the funk with the spirit in the music. Hip Hop was started from soul, funk and the like. Soul and funk and others evolve from Gospels. Of course humans can choose to use things in a good or bad way it is our choice how we use it. People decide to do good or bad it is our choice. I know my way from my experience which is soul when they say it got to have soul it means spirit the funk the feellll as musicians say. The jazz cats back in the days always said this. Almost every great musician I know quotes God and family as thier inspiration when it come to music. So to me since I was a shortie music was inspired by God be it the Spinners, Zapp Band, Keith Sweat, Biggie Smalls, Tribe, Jay-Z, Outkast, Neptunes, Sade, Badu you name it check the they say it. My inspiration and credit goes to God

I think you need to let it go of any past troubles with others you may had had.

Men have always done evil or good, because it exist in your hearts it`s everyone`s choice.

It isn't my past, sorry :)

I feel you on the global nature of spirit, keep it broad like that and you can talk about the spirit and all that in your music.

But when you quote a specific source (all in gods image) which has nothing to do with anything you kinda exclude those outside that tradition.

It's like, we all know marduk killed tiamat for our sins, so lets get get together. Or I hit them pads for Jesus.

Keep it all spirit, and we are united. Keep it bible based, and you lose the spirit.

Just look at the church and at history.

Anyhow, I have noticed a bunch of people on here getting all biblical and it would truly ruin this forum if people keep it up. If this isn't you then cool, but I will watch that line to keep this going on MPC.

Since we have gone so far offtopic, lets try to bring it back.

I don't usually loop samples, but it is not as easy as people seem to think. Particularly if you are layering different loops together, there can be so much clashing that it is a very involved way to work.
