The M Box doesnt support firewire connectivity from what I understand. If you upgrade from the box you can use firewire.

Yeah, i'm probably late on the subject, but lemme just reinterate on what firewire is.... without gettin all computer terms with it... Firewire is a insert... a little hole in ur computer that u stick a cable in.... a FIREWIRE cable, not a MIDI cable.... Now, i had the Mbox, and the Mbox has nothing at all, to do with firewire..... So u dont even have 2 worry about that.. take the talk about firewire and throw it out the window... just get u a MidiSport MidiMan, get u the Mbox, and u good

Yeah, there's a lot of factors that go into the whole Mbox thing.... with the distortion thing, i suffered the same thing, and what i found out was i didn't have the updated Service Pack, which i'm guessing is still Service Pack 2... or 2a... i had 1, but u can get a free download on Microsoft.com.... Do that and u SHOULD be good.... wit me it was like, i'd play it back a few times, and it would sound good, then i'd play it back, and it would sound like sh*t.... the Service pack cleared all that up.

What did you have to look for on microsoft.com, i tried to find something and couldn't. If its not any trouble, explain to me what i have to do. Thanx, youve been a lot of help.

The service pack being offered is 1a clears up all the bugs in XP so your
Mbox plays and records your vocs smoothly without it you get clicks and pops when you try to do vocs and record.

Go here for the update:

http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp

click on Scan for updtaes.

As far as the MBox the monitoring functions of it are garbage, you have to always adjust the input/playback knob to monitor everything, it's very annoying. I suggest either running the outputs of the MBox to a small mixer or a monitor switching device like the Samson C Control and running your monitors out form there.

Edit: Also, some folks have had success getting rid of the distortion by uninstalling the MBox and reinstalling it in a different USB slot.
