Say Ahh sounds like it has some swing. Knock you down sounds double timed for sure. But do they sound shifted earlier? Not to me. I think it's easier to pick up when a snare is shifted earlier than when a kick is.
I remember when I first heard Pharoahe Monch's Queens, which has fairly simple drum programming and to this day they're probabably my favorite drums, anyway I remember trying to duplicate the feel on Reason and never could get it to sound right and it wasn't until I got my XL did I understand it's pretty much the feel of the machine and triplet programming. Sound selection has a lot to do with it as well. One of those little mind tricks.
