Hey, why not cash in on the technology. :D

i chop on the mpc, jjos. sometimes i use the auto-chop - not afraid to admit it - and by adjusting settings going in, i still discover chops i wouldn't have found on a pc.

i also prefer using the scroll wheel to move thru the waveforms to adjust parameters and cuts (versus using a mouse).

Now I have an MPC 2000XL and Im determined to not let it become a paperweight due to my lack of knowledge. I've been chopping in it and I cant get it to sound good. I takes me too long to chop on it and by then, I've lost my ideas. Im thinking of choppin in recycle and then bringing it over. I think it will be better for me because of what Im used to.

shift + note variation slider speeds things up quite a bit in case you didn't know about that trick... it's like down-forward-punch in street fighter.

I haven't really used much of recycle in quite some time.... I just found it annoying that on a computer I have to chop in one program and then load up the results in another... and then do stuff to see the result. I think the fruity slicer was more thought out then the dr rex player (haven't tried the new one in R-5) If I'm on the computer, I often like simple no frills tools like the wave traveller... or simple cutting in nuendo. It really depends also on the kind of audio work I am doing.

thats where im at. i definately would like to chop on computer, i think id be able to do it faster, but the transfer of the chops to the mpc is way too slow. i loose the momentum. plus i havent found a likeable program to chop in. i always feel less experimental on the computer.....dunno

i feel like the potential is there to really take advantage of the computer and chop on there, but it never seems to pan out for me, either i dislike the workflow of the editor, or i get discouraged for the transfer time and just end up doing it directly on mpc anyways.

the reason the mpc irritates me is that on the mpc my sampling is more destructive. i might sample a small bit from a random record, unless i keep track of all my records, tracks, samples, if i want to go back to the original sample, i gotta remember all that shit. on the computer, if im choppin, its usually from a whole track, so i immediately have an archive of the original track. im an unorganized kind of dude though, so that shit gets me. i guess i feel more organized on the computer, but i loose experimentations and randomness on the computer.

Yeah I know about that already. I bought the guide from here and have read through it and done most of the stuff. I can move the cursor quicker like that but its still a pain to chop in. I have to save each sound to a new sound or if I zone edit it, the shit moves all over the place and isnt as easy as marker here, marker here, marker here. etc... The only thing about recycle is, like someone said, you have to sample shit as a wav file in a different editor and then you have to open recycle to start choppin stuff. Im sure the back and forth can be an annoyance but I have a zip drive attached to my pc so it shouldnt be too much of a problem. I dont know yet.

Also I read MPC Editor can make the assigning of pads a quick and easy process by making the program on the PC. Anyone?
