hey whatup, i just found a great place in the midwest......im not sure if you have them around you but its called "half price books" theres several in the milwaukee area-i think it may be a franchise, so it may be in you guys area. Im gonna hit em all up tomorrow, adn get all the juice. Anyways, i just bought 72 records for 15 bucks. Dude, 20 cents a apiece, perfect shape.

Lots of classical, and wierd shit, but it was well worth it, i went through the whole stack. Also found a nice persian one. I didnt have to dwindle nothin down there.......and the rest are reasonablely priced at like 2 to 6 bucks.

There's this place a couple of hundred yards from my house, that sells all their records for 20 cents... 99% of them are crap, but when you get em at that price you just have to grab anything that looks even remotely interesting.. You wouldn't believe the amount of crappy 80's hit collections I got stacked up ha ha!

Any record three bucks? Where is this spot? I went to mondo kim's on st. marks and they had this sale, two for 99 cents for everything in the front... the goody good stuff is upstairs but my budget was tigth but I came off with four good things and went to Quiznos with the change... digging and eating good, it don't get no better than this in the NYC...

Check this out - I work at a place called DMX MUSIC - we program music as well as video for retail stores...anywayz we used to be AEI MUSIC and over the years (late 70's to present) we amassed a huge collection of vinyl singles most (I mean like 95%) of them were never played, not even once - so last year the old owner decided we didn't want to house these records and let the employees dig through hundreds of boxes and take what they wanted for free before they were given away to charity or goodwill or something like that - in a nut shell I came up on over 1000 never played albums from the late 70's thru the present (boxes and boxes and boxes) of stuff from Disco, to soundtracks to hip-hop and house

needless to say I haven't even gone through half of the tracks but honestly I take most of my samples from Techno records (which I have a pretty good collection of, old and new)

When you say record shopping I think about buying new tracks to play, but I sample those to - I buy about 4 - 8 new records a month

Isn't there a bit of a moral issue in sampling new records of your style to make tracks in that same style?

Sort of, but I really don't care...

I'm kidding - you have to remember those loops are from other loops that were made by someone else who sampled some other loops so it's like, who am I really sampling - the finished product usually doesn't sound like what I started with, plus the newer the track, the crisper it sounds - I've sampled my own tracks and reused those loops

I have a theory about it all - loops are made from other loops that were made from other loops and the looping never ends - I'm sure there are more purist out there than people who sample but really I'm just into making jams...it's not as easy as it sounds but it's not exactly rocket science either - I'm not looking to recreate something someone else made but use a little bit of this and little bit of that - it works - besides what's cooler than being cool?
