all the post here are correct but we are all at different levels. first thing to do is to understand what are the components of a beat (hh, snare, bd, shaker, loops,etc). sit down with some paper and write out what you think the conponent are. i do not chop but use all types of samples. each day turn your system on and focus on one of the conponents. as time passes you will add more and more conponents to your list and after a while you will have a complete understanding of what is involved with beat making. listen to you favorty artist and try to duplicate what they are doing. there are no short cut and only experence will do it. so just roll up your shelves and start groovin. by the way how many tracks do you think your favorit artist writes before he or she has something that is half decent. believe me alot. so, take you time and master all the conponents of beat making. with practice you will be there.
