M-Box Pro Tools

Nuendo in the lab over here too.

i'm no sales person for digidesign by any means, but it is easy for me to use (real easy), but it's not for everyone. i have my gripes, midi is PATHETIC in a protools environment. i use it for raw audio only. add the fact that your have to pay additional cash to unlock the ability to convert files to mp3 format (very, very gay). but because so many studios use it, i can easily import my sessions without spending any time "tracking" audio. so it's more of a love/hate thing for me.

The M-Box is a little shady. I recommend that guys get the vst wrapper/rewire wrapper. And as far as ik multi-media plug-ins, the digidesign edition version is known to not work or distort your sound. There support system will not help you much. But what does all this have to do with the mpc? Just midi up your 1000 to the damn thing and use it to master or add more effects to your individual tracks.

for the lesson........yo man i hear so much hype 'bout pro tools i was beleive it too - i was tellin' my boy to cop that m.box but now im going to tell him to read up on it and do some homework before using it...........i didnt know about the fact that u have to have the hardware to use the protools software.............im going to have to consider nuendo - we were going to pool resources and get a studio space to lay some stuff down so i told him to buy different stuff from what i got.........dope post yall - i learned alot

I've used Cubase SX and more recently, Pro Tools LE (MBOX). I like stienberg better. Mbox crashes all the time in the middle of a session. I have a new Toshiba Laptop (3.06GhZ) with 1 GB memory. Turned off Hyperthreading like they advise but still crashing...All the time...with no Plu-gins running and 10 channels maximum. FYI: Im working with MPC1000, Reason 2.5, mbox and midiman 2X2. I think I am going to look for another solution. Maybe Tascam Fw mixer and Stienberg.Pro Tools LE and Mbox gives me headaches. Hope this helps anyone looking to make a decision.

You have just help me in my decision.......Cubase! I have a system built for pro tools and im still scared to get it.....!

BOTTOM LINE, the quality of any recording depends on the user and not the DAW/Program...Most so-called producers need to go back to the basics and learn the art and science of engineering before they can make an educated decision regarding which DAW is better.

As a fulltime engineering vet (15 years in the game with no other night/day jobs), I use whatever is deemed best to complete the job. I have a Pro Tools TDM system, Digital Performer 4.0, Logic Platinum, Cool Edit Pro, Adobe Audition, Audio Desk 1 & 2, Cubase SX 2.0, Sound Forge, and Nuendo (all legit, no cracks). I also have Alesis HD24's and ADATs as well...Plus, I just sold my 2" last year...Personally, I have no general preference on which system I use for any given project. All systems are great if you know how to use them to the max.

Unfortunately, newbies get sold on the "industry standards" or the "do-it-all" software packages....Before you break the bank to buy the next piece of equipment the 19 year old snot-nose sales person convinced you to buy, purchase a few books on production and engineering techniques. Also, train your ears.

I recently mastered a project that was recorded on an a Vestex MR66 (6 track cassette recorder). This project sounded better than projects I've recieved from clients using top-tier digital equipment...This dude really worked his meager setup to produce a recording that sounded incredible.

My lesson is: maximize what you got to get what you want...No one piece of equipment/DAW/Plugin/etc will do the work for you.

Thats not much of an upgrade partner. Keep the Cool Edit software and ivest in a bangin I/O box for your comp not the the MBox,dont even think about going Pro TOols unless your going for a 002 or above.

been to a Pro-tools workshop but I need a course not that
Iam bad or anything like that but I need a course.

Also ear training takes some time also

Pro Tools is great and easy software, but the sound quality on the MBox and Digi001 is lame. Most home studios that use Digi001s also have some sort of nice mixer or a Rosetta convertor in front of it. They are not running the audio straight into the ins.

For the price of a MBox you could cop a KorgD8 or Roland Vs 840ex and have better sound quality from the jump. Which in the D8s case even has MMC and digital outs so if you ever need to fly a track into Pro Tools or a stereo master to DAT or CDR, it would be a breeze.
