no im just sayin a prodcuer is the manger of the project. Dre is a producer cause he "produces", makes, a record for a label. a session musican will not be listed on the credits cause they just there to take orders and do there part. Ur puttin kanye into the session player realm. He is a producer. He is tellin cats what to do and that is why it says PRODUCED by kanye. The shi* ur talkin bout is a beatmaker, which is comparable to a session musican cause they just there to play there instument, the mpc, and that is it. Kanye is actually a producer and does the role fine.

Okay, yeah ur right bing, as far as the Producer - Beat Maker thing.... in that fact i'm talking about the actual beats that are being made.... As far as putting down songs and making hot shit, he's tight, as far as him being a musician, persay, he's not....

Either way, i'm not going to win the argument, i see where u all are coming from, but i guess we all just have different opinions on what it is to "make a beat" you know what i'm sayin? it's good to see that we can all have some good convos witout gettin heated

**** this producer / beatmaker shit. A producer is not a supervisor that just barks orders. people say that shit like the producer is on this whole other level than the lowly beatmaker. Any 'producer' worth his salt makes his own beats and writes his own song. If you have another guy playing anything on your track, you are officially a "Band" and both deserve credit. With this Producer bullshit people get away with taking credit that is not theirs like it's a **** skill.

The reason people lose respect for him is that they think he is doing everything, then they realize that he is not doing much at all, and you know, a beatmaker will get much more respect once the cat is out of the bag. If Dre just oversees a song and writes a few parts but gets all the credit, he is just a manager, Thats what managers do, they take credit for the work that other people do.

Yall fall for the industry line of Bullshyt so easily, it's no wonder so many cats sign such crappy deals, yall are so easy to fleece.

A producer takes the needed ingredients to make a product. I can rest assured that 95% of the cats posting here haven't put in nearly the same amount of hours and work as Kanye West has.

Don't get it twisted, just because you made the beat doesn't you make you a producer....making a beat is only a part in a production. There are many facets that go into production, INCLUDING, choosing the right piano/bass/guitar/violin player for a particular song.

Some of your greatest producers in the history of music have NEVER touched an instrument...But, they have a vision and an ear to create a hot product.

I guess it's a coincidence that all these "beat makers" Dre keep jackin' can't seem to blow up, especialy since they so hot.

nah i just look at producers like quincy jones or bob james or george martin or nile rodgers or teddy rieley or lamont dozier. **** hip hop. a producer is a producer. u dont get special rules in the industry casue u make beats. look at that eminem shi*, easy mo be did the drums to that tupac ish and em did the 45 vocal and who gets most of the prodcution credit? eminem. Look at dre, melman makes his drums. scott does his keys. This is the industry last time i checked. It really dont matter to the labels or the public who did the sampling or the drum pattern as long as the product is dope. they arent takin no credit from anyone it was like this 50 yrs ago it hasnt changed. A producer brings a product. A "beatmaker" makes a beat and then leaves it to the hands of whoever to mix, master, distribute, all that jazz, which a producer usally is a part of. A manager does a lot of ish. but a producer produces music thats it. He is in charge and he is paid for results. No matter how he gets em and what "cred" the cats get. The cats that help him are fully compensatied for there time so i think they aint losin no sleep bout not seein there name under, drum programming.

What does a record producer do?
A record producer is like a film director, in charge of all aspects of the making of the record: picking studios, deciding the additional musicians, what type of recording process and how much budget is available for the studio time, even down to food and taxis. It's quite a wide encompassing role.

i tried to look for a few different descriptions of what a producer does to give yall a better look at what they really are responsible for.

A real producer should be well versed in the area of sound and engineering. Not to say every producer should also double as a recording engineer, but a producer should have the know how to be able to hire skilled engineers to help get the job done. A producer should also be able to work and communicate with performers, technicians and musicians efficiently. This skill all comes down to psychology and the art of being able to work prosperously with individuals for long periods of time. It is also essential to have a broad knowledge of music, theory, songwriting, arranging and even orchestration. The broader the knowledge the better - you can never know too much about the art of music. Extensive knowledge of business in general, self-employment, management and so on should share a similar ideal; the more you know the better. A producer must also be able to see a project through in its entirety from start to finish with out having to 'wing it' to get it done.

Quincy jones is a musician, he played trumpet for a long time. Teddy riley did a lot of his own composing as well.

People use producer to mean composer, but you'd be hard pressed to call any of these hip hop producers composers, they are managers, business managers, that's it. Saying it's so and so's song when they had little to do with actually writing it is bullshit. It is a legal scam that they have glossed over with the credibility of actual composers and musicians, which is what people actually hear when they hear producer. Making them out to somehow be more important than the musicians and artists is the same as saying the manager at a factory is responsible for the product, when you could fire him and still have product, but without workers, you got nothing.

Seriously, the music industry has contracts that are reminiscent of indentured servant contracts, no other industry gets away with that.

You can have a guy singing covers and he has more to do with the actual music than some of these so called producers. The top Producers that I know do their thing and control their operation while making their music. Easy Mo Be is a great guy, and does all his own shit, he can make a hit without am "executive producer" there to rape him. but the problem is the contacts and the money involved to start up a project, that's where the Executive producer get the credit, basically buys the credit for the music piece even though it is not his work at all.

I can't respect that, or people who fall for the fairy tale that makes these guys out to be musicians or worse "super musicians" because they can tell other players what they want and don't want.

I'm kinda gettin tired of all the children here, I don't mind helping people eager to grow, but when yall buy into all this bullshit and think there is any credibility when so many ghostwriters and session musicians played their soul into it, it really makes me worry that the soul of the whole thing is gone. Man, they are just people, the media hype makes you think they are something so **** great, they are just damn people!! With enough money, anyone can be a producer like these guys. All they had to do was know someone and get that money, all of a sudden they are virtuosos of a genre.

give me a break.

The thing about Kanye is, he seems to make the most out of nothing.
