how to use swing

Here is something else to think about! If you turn swing on 58 percent or what ever and its changing "ALL" then you might get turn off from it. You must think a bout the fact a drummer will never do things the same way ever time so that means you must give your kick drum its own swing and your snare drum its own swing and the same thing for the hi hats. Now this is where i take it even deeper. Ill change the swing on my kick drum to 58 percent from bar 1:00 to 2:00 and then ill add different swing setter from bars 2 to 3 and so on and so on. I do this for ever drum sound. On my hi hats ill have different bars make the hi hat shift early or later at different rates with different swing percentages. I do all this with the full levels turn off. I get a great groove this way. The thing to remember is a drumer will never be on point every time he hit the kick or snare or even the hats but at the same time adding one swing setting for one sound for all the bars will add a lil stiffness too so you must make it do what the thing was ment to to and swing and change the settings over and over. A good groove is not something you notice but feel! no setting is a good one cause every song is different!

I was trying to swing different parts of the sequence by setting Time in the TC Window (Move Existing Notes). It's good when you have this window open as you can hear what it's doing when moving the earlier/later & swing. It's a bit of a shame you can't hear it only affect the section you've selected (only after you hit 'do it'). but then I suppose you can press undo if it doesn't sound 'good' with the rest of the sequence. What do you think?

Im glad yall understand what i was talking about. I just go berzerk with my drums swinging. If you chang up the swing from bar to bar you really cant go wrong. Ill shift my hi hats early 1 or 2 with a swing of 60 for bar 1 to 2 and then come back and put the shift early back to 0 but swing my hats at 54 percent for bars 2-3. I just come up with different numbers and get different out comes but the funny thing is once you start doing it this way its hard to not want to do it like this over and over from beat to beat and the deeper you get in finding new ways to freak the more you cant just do the good shift all 58 percent.

and the effect of swing also differs when you apply let's say 16/58% or 32/58%.

i can only apply swing at 1/16 and below....... i thought that was normal..... i have an MPC 2kxl..... ne1 know what i mean?
