how long does it take to name you sequences, songs, and samples.

  the most important things of the MPC...

seriously, I wait until after my session is done to go back and do all that.....at the very worst, I write notes down on paper, then go back and name stuff...

yo boogie,

all i do is hit cntl S and type in a name. all the patches, modifications i made to vsti and effects are saved. no note taken, just music makin.

cyus, my akai samples that i load into my mpc and s2000 sound the same when i load them in intakt and battery. one thing i do not understand is how do you use your hardware. i have 32 channel mackie mixer that i run all my hardware and software thru. i own lexicon, alesis micro reverb, alesis 3630 compressor and equalizer and i would always run my mpc (8 output) thru these effects. now i use vst effects plus my hardware effects and i get decent sound. i am not going to talk sh!t to you because i have gone to your website and i think your music is nice. i do not make beats but compositions. all of my stuff sounds like a band, drums, perc, keys, guitar, bass, organ, synth, strings, pads, solo 1 and solo 2. i agree to disagree, 3 or 4 years ago i would agree 100% with you but today i just cant. it no biggie thro.

^^^ i feel what your saying.

alot of hiphop heads, go for the old school sampler sound.

but if you sample vinyl, and chop, hiphop style-there is a certain feel the mpc, or asr gives you. I can recognize a "mpc beat" alot of times.

personally
I dont use any effects. Only time i do is in the sound design process; usually its only involves eq, inside the triton. Or occasionally when i eq a drum sound or tweak a filter on my emu px7. But this is all on my synths. But i mainly work with mixing layers.

on my mpc2000xl, i dont have the effects board or 8 outs. Most of my beats are all done on just the mpc. I have to mix with the mpc mixer, then record a stereo track....i dont midi sync or nothing to track.

But i go to a studio as well....so far no effects have been used on my studio tracks, but they arent finished yet either.

When i record, its all dry, I just normalize it so i can hear it.

All in all though I find the mpc is all i really need. I need my triton, as a source for sounds.....like synthy stuff. I sample my bass sounds into the mpc from my triton. if i can i sample other sounds, but alot of time its hard to sample a wierd synth patch or its not worth sampling a piano patch thats already good in the triton, so i jsut sequence the triton.

but really i can jsut use the mpc. I can chop vinyl, or i can sample synths or whatever....i like it all in the mpc.

I admit, saving is a pain in the ass, but like boogie, i do that ish at the end and i dont consider it part of the process, more like, im done. But i sample alot, so that i can save it all in the mpc. Otherwise i gotta save a mpc program and seq.....a triton seq/pcg file.....and if use my emu, i have to save a multi.

im bout to upgrade to a mpc4000, so i can sample all my synths and make real multisample programs. saving me saving time. ANd im gonna sell sample cds.

cyrus, i can not say anything negitive to you because your sh!t is nice. you are going a nice job with your setup. not everyone here have the talent that you have. period. you are working the hardware setup and it does work for you. peace my brother and keep up the good work.

plus, you (and binger) are the only ones that can/have back up thier hardware argument. the rest are just talking out of thier A$$. that is my i have gained much respect for you two. you guy talk the talk and walk the walk.

fruity Loops plug in to Rival the MPC????

ever since 9th wonder came out these **** fruity Producers think they are the shit LOL

that's a good idea, Akai should release a virtual MPC for use with the MPD-16, at least fruity thought of it. It won't replace the MPC for me, but I'm sure many others will get it, especially those who aren't interested in MPC's that much but will take another plug in.

yes, but if you check out these 9th wonder beats, a good deal of them sound the same! i mean, i see he's having hard time makin the drums punch, which i think is the most important thing i've experienced on an mpc, so he's using the same kit on most of he's songs, which is a kit i believe he's found "bangin". i know this from my own experience, it's hard to get those snares crispy and kicks punchy, even if youre using eq, compressor and a few more effects!

The one thing that worries me about computer based operations such as FL, the BSOD. Once you get the BSOD, you usually have to reformat and reinstall all your applications and transfer all your backed up material (assuming you did do a backup of your tracks, samples, etc.).

Now I'm not saying that hardware is perfect, it can fail too, I fix failed hardware every day. But their failure probability is small compared to Windows' failures.

I doubt the FPC would truly rival an MPC, but it is another option to use for production.

problem is cynic is that fruity is midi based where as the mpc's internal seq is quartz and much tighter...so you could try and emulate the swing but it wont sound exactly right as the mpc is tighter...

mpc swing translates quite well to logic but i dunno about fruity

Are there any "Virtual Keyboards" out there?

By cynic Wed Dec 01, 2004 8:13 pm
all this nonsense about "making drums punch" is just about sound source/shaping and the mastering you apply. go listen to the majority of my drums. they'll punch a hole in your head. :)

i understand the deal about the timing being tighter, but figure this, it only applies when programming from different sources. if you do all your sequencing from within FL it's going to be in time.

and to the guy with the BSOD comment...man please. you don't have to reformat your **** computer if you get BSOD. i've not had my computer crash that bad EVER and i've been havin em since like 1995.

yo fruity loops is no joke. Its just a diff way to make beats. Also with the ninth wonder shit. thats him thats makin thouse snares sound like that not fruity. I have been usin FL5 and i gotta say they stepped there game up. U can record, and edit samples now, the fpc is rugged if u own an mpc or mpd16. It pretty much is like the mpcs setup. U can also layer shit by velocity which is pretty tight. I was rockin my mpc with it so it was coo. i think it was a very good edtion to loops. to the cats that are shittin on floops though u need to spend some time on it. Its got everything u need for production and is more through then reason. And the seqing is pretty decent too. And if u get into the groove templates and piano roll it becomes some real deal shit. I just did some shit on fl recently on my site. I think **** is the one i did on it.

My humblest apologies, cynic. Boy, the way you're lashing back, one would think that you and the Fruity Loops people are buddy and friend. You're talking like you're the software production police or something. Don't take it personal, Officer cynic. All I offered was my opinion, not a judgment.

I have no grief with you, so don't project your frustrations on me. Use your computer in peace. I wish you well in your endeavors with Fruity Loops and perhaps as you continue to grow in your Fruity Loops skills, you may wish to grow in the concept that you should respect or at least accept the opinions of others.
