write a bass/root note sequence first:

i find writing a simple 3-4 note bass line, nothing too clever just something to pin chords over is a great way to create a foundation to noodle over...i have ended up with say three different chord sequences for the same bass sequence which i can work on further....the beauty of doing it this way is that the bass notes wont define whether a chord should be minor, major, augmented etc- that is up to you and you can get some cool patterns you may not have thought of by experimenting this way...the other good thing is that after this is done you still have room for a bassline as the root note sequence is just backing up the chords and allows room for a better bassline...

get a book on chords and inversions and just mess around....

so come up with a bassline with bass instruments or left hand piano notes? yea i feel you. sounds like a good idea. ill try that tonight!! i've been told to get a book but i just been reading this thick ass packet of lessons i printed out.

maybe i should spend a little money to really learn. sounds like a plan. greg you really been helpin. thanks

yeah just something dead simple with the left that you can then put chords over with you right hand..if you stick to justs simple roots you can write a decent bassline later...

just go to pianochordhouse dot com and type in the chords/scales you want there...that way you dont have to buy a chord book....

I am a complete Idiot and i figured out ...I know that music theory is confusing sometimes At first u have to know that that the majorscale is buildt upon seven scales which belongs to specific notes:
I = C-Ionian
II = D-Dorian
III= E-Phrygian
IV= F-Lydian
V = G-Mixolydian
VI= A-Aeolian
VII=B-Locrian ... :?

you need to know about the specific of a chord : Minor chords always got a flatted 3rd t;thats specific about minor chords and also the 7, in let say a Cm7 stand for the 7 not for maj7 :?

they'll ALWAYS have a flat?

hmm...what about that A minor? the notes are A, C, E :?

so the m means minor right? not major

By mush Fri Nov 19, 2004 9:23 pm
yep thats the Aminor chord ...the 3rd of A major is C# ..so is C the flattened 3rd
