Discuss the various methods you use in music production, from compressor settings to equipment type.

word i come to this conclusion as well.
I cant even use the omf import in protools to test the theory unless i get the digitranslator which costs like $500. though the omf importing of logic audio clips probably still wont sound as good once in PT as they did coming str8 outta logic.

i third tht as well. i spoke to an acoustics engineer, who uses pro tools only because of the name, and he said to be honest, he moving stright to logic. its a total rip off, pro tools.
thanks to elmacaco who first told me about thier scams, but i decided to follow it up, and so here we have it, thanks sampie for checking out the info as well.

btw, 192 khz is not needed at all, 24 96khz sounds tranparent enough, and your average joe block, or deaf engineer cant tell the difference.

if anyone disagrees, then son come through and deliver!!!

thanks to y'all as well. I really like the simplicity of protools and the layout but i prefer the sound of logic, and to me that is more important. See alot of people say logic is complicated, but it is how you make it. Protools got two windows-1. edit, 2.mix. simple right? Well logic has these same two windows-- 1.arrange, 2. track mix. Now its up to the user if they want to dive into the other windows in logic. and there are alot. but you can use logic just the way you use protools. Arrange page to record audio/ and track mixer to mix / add plugns. Protools can be simpler in some things that logic might take alittle more getting used to. The reason for protools is to be compatible with others who have it in their studios. And that is alot of people!!! peace to all and keep making dope music and having a good time.

Pro Tools and Logic sound the same, its all digital and depends more on the I/O box than the software, as far as the lower volume is concerned, just reload the stereo file into a new Pro Tools sessions, run a Waves compressor and bump up the volume (I generally use the mastering preset and play with the threshold till it sounds right then take the volume to 6 or so). Should not take more than one bounce to get your levels up to radio level volume.

if that is true then my delta 44 i/o box smokes the mbox.
to be fair tho i have never had the experience of using protools hd system with the higher end converters. But as far as my specs go in my crib, audio coming str8 outta logic sounds better then when it comes out of PT. with or without plug fx.

Pro Tools is not magically ruining your bounced Logic file.....

By sampie Thu Jan 27, 2005 9:57 pm
not only a bounced file. If i open up a Native Instruments Battery plugin in PT. And open the same instance with the same samples in Logic, the logic version sounds better and I am able to get a louder cleaner not clipped signal whereas in PT it will clip. Maybe its me. Maybe its the MBOX, maybe i am buggin but if anyone else can run a similar test that would be cool

This is possible....PT wasnt built to handle VST audio.

But your other problem is your bounced file from Logic. Just to play around, take a CDA file from one of your favorite CDs and open it in Pro Tools, open your file in anohter track and do a side by side listen....its not Pro Tools.

thats a good idea roley , i will try that tonite and report back.
See it just seems even when i record into the mbox, i dont get alot of signal /headroom before clipping. With my delta 44 and logic it seems i can get a louder signal b4 it clips. Damn i wish protools was able to run off the Delta 44, cause that would end this whole investigation/

Just a question, are you running audio straight from your MPC or through a outboard mixer first?

By sampie Thu Jan 27, 2005 10:05 pm
ok i am retarded. I can probably use the MBOX with logic, and see if this is the MBOX doing. I forgot that logic can run with the mbox as the soundcard. I am trying this later and will get back at y'all. thanks again

to mixer first then mixer to mbox

You answered your own question. Time to scrap the MBox.

But for the records, I have heard some beautiful MBox mixes....

I have no doubts that Logic sounds better than Protools, the 32 bit vs 24 bit internal processing alone nails that argument, and I dont really like the sound of Protools over all (and I am not alone in this). But I am rather shocked at the sound of Logic as well, better than protools is one thing ( price of admission) but much of the audio sounds very flat and cold to me, whereas Cubase, sonar, and my favorite, Nuendo, have a more pleasing sound.

IMO.

Are you talking aobut recording quality or internal VST/plug in quality?

Cause as far as recording, you really get out what you put in (I know this as fact because I can hear the difference between tracks recorded through different mixing boards) - the only noticeable degraded qulaity I noticed with Pro Tools was recording at 16bit on OS9 and the first version of OS10 - I got no complaints now.
