yeah tom jenkinson has a snare, cymbal combo in his room....
you need to study some drum music to understand what is going on in beats and how they are constructed- most breakbeats (read hip hop to drum n bass) can be played with just a bass drum, snare and either a hat, ride, shaker or tamb- often more elements are involved by practice getting good beats going with just three percussive elements and go from there....
