How so... Sampling can be difficult... Yea some people just loop and even then it's picking the right loop that is an art form... But I mean look at people like Dj Shadow and RJD2... Whether you like the music or not it is incredibly complex sampling and is just as hard if not harder than writing a piece on the piano..

No heat here... Just stating my two yen...

I like posting in sample based producer forums how sampling is not difficult. Certainly its a lot harder to write music on an ACTUAL INSTRUMENT. I also am quite upset I get no attention..........oh well

I'm not sayin composing melodies is easy either... But people sayin that sampling is easy like all it is is jackin someone else is just plain wrong...
It's only like that for people who suck and usually don't have a creative bone in their body...

I mean not that I find composing a nice melody to be super easy. but I don't find it to be super challenging either (I mean I'm talking about msot of the original sh*t out there... Obviously Dre and people like that are on another level, but a lot of people just lay out a really simple cliche melody)...

I do find it hard however to take someone elses music and make it yours... Retain the original feel of the track and at the same time add your own flair to it...

Like I said I'm not sayin either is more or less difficult... Hell I use a synth to lay a background under the samples I use to be able to add variety and more flexibility to my beats... So I use a little of both.. But cats comin on and sayin that Sampling is easy are just some pig-headed a$$es..

can you read?

I dont give a **** what kind of music you make and i dont give a **** how good you are..........you can make classical music for all I care, actually, artists like medeski martin and wood, herbie hancock, anyone who uses an mpc, samples. and im not even refering to you. Im refering to the statement in general...........jaems statement(not personally directed at him either, just the statement)

Genre doesnt have anything to do with............but to state that sampling cannot be as difficult as writing music on an instrument, is an uneducated statement. I used those artists as examples to disprove the idea. If sampling was easy ...........how come every body who samples isnt as good as the artists mentioned above? and this is just lame semantics...............

sorry boys but recording a pice of audio and then resuing that in a song however hard to find the sample was will never be as difficult as learning a real instrumnet- no beef i play an instrument and i love sampling but to elevate something which essentially a technical process however artistically expressed to the levels of learning an instrument with all its nuances, colours, rules etc-

OH NO!! this could be another 'is a truntable an instrument?' thread :D

Hmm? some good points here but i dont think anyones wrong with what there saying but it sounds a bit "my dads bigger than your dad" and to try to claim that this is harder than that, just sounds childish. They are totally different art forms but I think it is a hell of a lot harder to initially learn an instrument than read a manual & push buttons. Im sure anyone who is a competent musician will testify this, and anyone who isnt really doesnt know what the f*** their talkin about cos they havent been there :!:
The whole point of music technology advancements is you dont need a full session group & million £$ studio to do ya thang.. and thats def not a bad thang!! :)

Well put! There seems to be WAY too much emphasis in these forums to "if only I could find that perfect sample/loop". I only joined this forum 4ish months ago and the one think that has surprised me is that a significant percentage of the Hip Hop writing crowd seem to have very little interest in creating their own sound. Often when there is a synth on the scene, even that is sample based and will be the rompler that everyone else is using. I am not aware of any other genre of music that has this sort of closed mind set..

I would hazard a guess that the truly great Hip Hop tracks out there are not being produced using the techniques we are led to believe (deliberately led?!). Sure, the Dre's of the world might have started with a turntable and a MPC but they will quickly discover that in order to sound original, you have to be original and this means not being primarily focused on producing tracks that are 100% sample based. Samples have their place but we all need more..

>>>>>>>>>>>>

get used to it splintz...this forum is full of it....just read the 'turntable' table thread i mentiond where some cats seemed desparate to be compared to musicians when all they did was dj...

punk its sooo true- a thing i find quite depressing this is the only forum where money is as important as tunes, peeps get slagged for wanting to step their game up with music theory or musicianship, peeps get slagged for not using the same 12-bit sampler, same collection of 45's etc etc- no other forum has had quite a collection of weird opinions, haters, trolls and copyists....still there are some very taleneted people, some excellent knowledge and some real nice peeps too- give and take i guess...
