It's hard to type, easier to explain.

I came up with it one day when I was thinking about what the ringing actually is, an oscillating ear hair.

PM me your phone number and I'll walk you through it. It works for me and it worked for skalawa too. Maybe Andreas as well. It's not a cure, It might not work for severe cases, but it has worked everytime for me.

I'd enjoy talking to you anyhow tru pro

Oh I get it...Oscilating ear hair? Hmm,
maybe we should check Web MD for a more precise prognosis.
At any rate, seems interesting, and as my case is
mild, your advice may do the trick.

yeah man, I get stuff from the ether sometimes, and it worked for me and skalawa, I think maybe I hiped andreas to it. No web MD, they'll give you some pill.

what u cats are describing is tinnitus. its an ear conditon that gives off a screachy noise. You have to watch your levels and get rid of the car subs, and wear earplugs at shows and whatnot to prevent it. It can be a motherfu**er. I used to have it real bad casue i ruptured an ear drum a few years ago by putting my ear next to a blaring speaker and blood came out that shit for a week. But i keep the levels at bay and it really only comes on with certain freqs, like high pitched tones. It can drive you nuts. Cant sleep at night and want to go crazy when it gets bad. there are things u can do to improve it though with yuor diet and cutting out the ganja. Apparently herb casues it to be worse. Read this FAQ on it.

Subjective Tinnitus

This form of tinnitus may occur anywhere in the auditory system and is much less understood, with the causes being many and open to debate. Anything from the ear canal to the brain may be involved. The sounds can range from a metallic ringing, buzzing, blowing, roaring, or sometimes similar to a claanging, popping, or nonrhythmic beating. It can be accompanied by audiometric evidence of deafness which occurs in association with both conductive and sensorineural hearing loss. Other conditions and syndromes which may have tinnitus in conjunction with the condition or syndrom, are otosclerosis, Menier's syndrome, and cochlear or auditory neve lesions.

i also fired a gat near my left ear (thou this was in the army :D ) and my ear has become sensitive since, you know, high pitched noises itches your ear in a sense, it's not hurting, but.. its there still. i always wear ear plugs on gigs even how drunk i am and the next morning you feel great cause you know you saved your ears once more, even thou youd fcuk up some other way lol.

Hey, El what can I do? ive had a small ringing in my ears for about a week... This sucks, I hope it goes away....

By gcottrell Fri Apr 01, 2005 6:51 pm
I'm feelin y'all. Got the same thing.

Woke up one day and thought what's that frackin sound? Day two had me freaked cause I'm real sensitive to annoying s**t like that.

Spent some big cheese getting specialists test's. I knew it was tinitus 4 sure, and it was.

I went nuts, literally, freaked out and panicked. Couldn't live with it. Doc had me on Serapax and anti-depressant's to help me chill.

It's all good now - the ringing is still there but ya gotta learn to live with it. Unless I FOCUS and LISTEN for it, I don't notice it. It took a while and I thought I'd never get over it, but I have, and any-one elde probably will too.

Ya know the famous artist Van Gogh (or one of those famous cats) who cut his ear off? It's been documented he did that cause he had the same thing. Thought if he cut his ear off the ringing would stop

There's some new research goin' on now where-by they re-train the oscillating micro-hairs in the ear to re-duce their vibrating, re-ducing the noise. Google it.

Could b worse - you could lose your hearing completely. But then again, you'd cope with that too in the end.

Everything hasppens 4 a reason, know what I'm sayin'.

Kids, keep your plugs in at the show.
Your ears are the dopest, most prized
peice of gear you own, and you can't get another
set on f*%king Ebay dog...
This thread is very important,

Once I get at tru pro I'll try and type instructions on how to do it, it might work, but if it's serious it might not. Retraining ear hairs is kinda how it works, I call it resetting ear hairs. Even without tinitus when I do it my hearing becomes more sensative.

You also might try sleeping with ear plugs in, give them ears a rest.

Man, I was fittin to cut like that MattMatiks thread I read, but I kept lurking and reading...I guess it is kinda addictive (this forum).......

Anyway, this topic is very important I as well have been suffering with hearing issues for a little over a year now. Sh** just popped up outta nowhere one day, actually for me it's beyond ringing, but check this....

There are a few options. Off top, if it really bothers you, look into TRT - tinnitus retraining therapy. You basically take these small 'noise generators' and fit em in your ears like hearing aids. They emit a low level pink or white noise that slowly over time calms the tinnitus. I don't neccessarily recommend this unless you are desperate because tinnitus can be caused by other physiological factors. Jaw and neck problems can cause tinnitus. Matter of fact it can be a neurological response to a number of health problems. Lifestyle change is a good way to lessen the effects of tinnitus. Cut the herb like someone else said, cut the recreational drugs period. Watch the salt, soda, processed foods, these don't help either. As was recommended, holistic remedies are the best bet. Chinese herbalists may have herbal mixtures that will lessen or eliminate tinnitus. Also, if you a out-of-shape muhf***ka, get off your ass and start excercising to increase the flow of blood in your body and ultimately your ears.

I can't say it's good to know I ain't the only one having hearing issues, but I had no idea this many people had some sort of hearing issue. Some cats got that iron ear thing goin on. Like they been blastin levels for so long that they got a nice grand canyon dip in their hearing frequencies, but ain't got no ringing. It's a trip for me because I can still hear things brilliantly. Even with tinnitus I pick up on sounds that some people can't hear. If you have hearing issues be careful with your levels, especially sub bass. Veteran engineers recommend rockin the sound at conversation levels when doing a mix. Only turning it up here and there to reference the vox/music ratio, or how the bass is hittin. Also, it's good to take breaks to avoid ear fatigue or compound the problem. I heard someone mention a Radio Shack db. meter. Very good thing to have. Since I've had these problems, I only rock the sound at between 60-75 db. Occassionally, I'll go up to 80-85 db., but only for very short periods of time, as this is where the danger zone starts. I think it goes without say, but stay away from chainsaws, power tools, etc. These things do more damage to your hearing that people think, especially jack hammers.

Now, after wasting a year thinking lame MD's were gonna be able to help, I must find either a good accupuncture/herbalist, or an osteopathic doctor. Holistic remedies are the only ones that will really last without altering how your hearing functions(that why TRT ain't my first option). I prolly wouldn't be a believer, but I personally know somebody that rehabilitated himself from a crippled state under the guidance of a Chinese herbalist. **** doc.'s told the cat he'd prolly never walk again, but, he's totally mobile without a cane. Got some pain sometimes, but what would you rather have? Doctors sh** on holistic remedies all day 'cause it's bad for business and pharmatceutical companies pockets.

Anyway, that's my piece on it for now. I am interested in hearing what Elmac.'s technique for tinnitus reduction is. If I had to guess I'd prolly say use a tone-generator at the approximate frequency of the tinnitus to let the inner ear and brain know it can still recognize those frequencies. One more thing, we all start with hearing that goes up to around 18-20k, by the time we are in our 40's or 50's it can be diminished to as low as 10-15K. Almost forgot, drop the caffeine too!! Be careful with your hearing people!!!......

By elmacaco Fri Apr 01, 2005 11:33 pm
Nah, no tone generators, just fingers.

I just carried way to many groceries home so my shoulders are aching, and it's a hard thing to describe in writing, so I'll give a crack at it later.
