whats yur method of pad layout

I start w/ banks A & B full of drums lined vertically w/ kicks on the far left pads, snares after that, hats , and the 4th row I'll have whatever . Then I use banks C & D for all of my bass sounds and samples .
Lord Toranaga, have you ever had your MP freeze up and start playing sounds that you thought you purged hours earlier and all you can do is hit the power to make it stop ? That sh!t happens to my MP every couple months (especially if I'm tuning drums while the seq. is playing) .

yea i got the midi notes in chromats,
geez um, i have been up from 9 this morning, its 3 now, and i havent even gotten half way, through kits. aaaaaaaaaaaah, and i still got bass and keys to map out. Rolling Eyes from 2 days ago. oh man

are you using the mpc editor software? if not its soooo very very fast- just decide on your program format and then just add the samples, save remove samples and add the new set- that way you dont need to go into the prog settings...

I put my drums down in groups.
Row 1-Kicks
Row 2-Hats
Row 3-Snares
Row 4-Perc

As far as chops i spread them all over so i don't end up playin it the exact same way as the sample.
Chop 1-13/Chop 2-4/Chop 3-16/Chop 4-1/Chop 5-9/Chop 6-12/Chop 7-5/Chop 8-8/Chop 9-14/Chop 10-2/Chop 11-15/Chop 12-3/Chop 13-10/Chop 14-7/Chop 15-6/Chop 16-11

I think that's right.I may have misnumbered but,you get the idea.

hey yo greg i got the mpc editor, its just the turning st into mono, then normalising, then sorting and stuff like takes time. i got a few at hand now, and i just playing around with them, to see how they yand feel, this is taking forever.

Yeah, but remember, that using the MPC editor will have the midi note numbers is the regular messed up order (GM midi note mapping) You need to save a PGM with the chromatic midi notes and load that empty program into the editor or the PGM will have the GM map.

I stick to the same general layout, but not GM!

It might be a good idea to actually sequence the chops in their original order and rearrange the way you play them. That way you know you're mixing it up. If you chop up your samples and randomly play them you might end up playing the original. Trust, it's happened to me a couple times!

Hasn't happened yet.I just spread them out to keep from playing the arrangment exactly the same because i know how the original was composed.
