Guess what?

did you apply swing before you placed them?

Did you apply swing but forget to hit "do it"?

Did you turn quantize off and youre just so funky that you placed them already swung naturally?

were you using 16ths? if you are doing 8th notes nothing will move, you need to put on th 2nd and 4th 16th notes- swing is only for those notes all on the one bass drums and off beta hihats are straight and dont get swung by the quantize...

of course you are porbably doing this already- cant answer that, you record your hats, go into the quantize screen and set your swing (ensuring you are doing this for all notes) and then go into step edit and your hats should have moved from the 24 and 72 poistions to something higher....

without my mp in fornt of me i cant help much more- should work essentially...


if you programm a line of 16th hihats so they are hitting every sixteenth note just swing that to 60% should be very obvious to your ears...

follow:

quantize: 16 - no swing- >note repeat> record hihats> quantize> set to 75% swing> listen to slippery madness

I am working on a track at the moment so I have used swing and taken it off and put it back again etc...

I am using swing on my closed hi hats so they are on the beat with the kick drum. I went into the swing screen then put it on 57% I think. Then when I looked in step edit they were still right on the beat where I put them, not swung a bit like it should be.

and there is the problem- they wont swing on the kick drum- your doing a fourfour kick yeah?

its only the 2nd and 4th 16th notes that swing

none of those notes would swing

put a snare or clave here:

these are the notes that will swing note any which falls on the ones shown above for the hat and kick

0, 30, 48, 78...that way you know track 2 has a different swing setting to track 1...

but if you cant hear the difference perhaps there is no point in swing each track individually

So let me get this right, the only notes that swing are the 2nd 4th and16th notes.
2nd note 4th note
I am doing a four, four kick drum. X000X000X000X000 closed hats fall on the X’s.

So if I put a closed hi hat on every kick drum and applied swing the only notes that would swing are the 2nd, 4th and 16th? I thought all the notes swung.

Sorry to keep going over this man but the more I do the more it sinks in!!!!

nope swung notes are just the relationship between the 2nd and 4th 16th notes.....

the only noptes that will siwng will be these(0):

x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0
