Learn chords first. There is a great way to figure out the major chord for each note.
Pick a note. Now, including the black keys, count 4 keys to the right (stopping on the fourth, but not counting the original key), then count 3 keys to the right of that key (again, stopping on the third). Those three keys together are the major chord of the original note.
Try practicing playing chords with one hand (I use my left) and playing induvidual notes on your other hand. Usually the chords will play slower and sustain longer, somewhere in the range of 1/2bar-1 bar, and the induvidual notes on the other hand wil play more rapidly, say, 4-8 times a bar. You can usually get the grasp how keys feel usuing this method, and then try new stuff by ear.
